Diego Maradona was widely reported to wear a watch on each wrist. Accounts give two explanations: Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe said Maradona linked the watches to his two daughters; Argentine sports reporting says one kept local time visible while the other showed the time in Argentina. Neither explanation is established by a direct recorded statement from Maradona, and the accounts are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

TIME’s 2010 article also described the local-time/Argentina-time explanation, attributing it to Yahoo Sports rather than to Maradona. TIME Infobae’s 2024 search-result text relays a similar account from Maradona’s brother Raúl Alfredo “Lalo” Maradona, and says former teammate Oscar Ruggeri recalled Diego asking for two identical watches. Because the original page was not available for review, those details are best treated as secondary reporting rather than decisive evidence. Infobae
Which explanation is right?
The available accounts do not settle that question. The family explanation comes through Guadalupe’s recollection; the time-zone explanation appears in Argentine sports and media reporting. They could both describe reasons for wearing two watches, but the sources do not establish whether Maradona had one motive, the other, or both.
The Hublot watches associated with Maradona
Time+Tide identifies a Hublot Big Bang Gold Ceramic “Maradona edition” and a later Big Bang Sapphire with baguette diamonds among models associated with him. Guadalupe said Hublot gave Maradona two of the latter. These are product associations reported by the publication, not evidence that a particular model explains the two-watch habit.
