WWE released Mandy Rose from her contract on December 14, 2022, one day after she lost the NXT Women’s Championship to Roxanne Perez. Contemporary wrestling reporting connected the decision to sexually explicit material on Rose’s FanTime page, which WWE sources reportedly viewed as outside her contract parameters and a possible problem for partner relationships. That reasoning comes through press reports attributed to unnamed sources. The coverage available for this article contains no detailed public statement from WWE explaining the decision, and Rose has said she was not told the FanTime page was the reason.
Readers usually search for “fired,” but the reporting almost always says “released” or “released from her contract.” This article uses that language, because it describes what WWE did without assuming the terms of the contract.
What happened, in order
The sequence is short, but the accounts of it come from different people and were published on different dates. The table separates what happened from who reported it.
| Date | Event | Where the account comes from |
|---|---|---|
| December 13, 2022 | Rose loses the NXT Women’s Championship to Roxanne Perez. In her January 2023 interview, Rose said she had held the title for 413 days and had unified two titles during that reign. | Rose’s own statements, as recapped by USA Network on January 11, 2023. The 413-day figure is Rose’s account, not an independently verified statistic. |
| December 14, 2022 | WWE releases Rose from her contract. Contemporary reports connect the release to material on her FanTime page. | Fightful reporting. The reason is attributed to WWE sources. |
| December 15, 2022 | Rose posts a short message thanking supporters: “Hey guys, thank you for all the messages. I am overwhelmed with all the love and support from you guys. And don’t worry the page is still up!” | Fightful, which noted that WWE had not commented at that time. |
| January 10, 2023 | Rose appears on Tamron Hall’s show and discusses the title loss and her release. She says she was hurt and disappointed and expresses gratitude for her WWE years. | Rose’s appearance, as recapped by USA Network on January 11, 2023. |
| February 2023 | Reporting on Rose’s comments says WWE had asked her to remove a FanTime link, and she complied. | Fightful follow-up dated February 7, 2023. This does not show whether WWE gave any earlier warnings about the content. |
The reported reason
The most detailed explanation for the release comes from a Fightful report published December 24, 2022. It attributes the following points to WWE sources, not to a company statement:

- WWE viewed the content on Rose’s FanTime page as explicit and outside her contract parameters.
- WWE considered the material inappropriate for one or more partner relationships.
- Sources said Rose did not appear interested in stopping the posts.
The same report also says it is unclear whether the release was requested by Rose, initiated by WWE, or mutual. That uncertainty matters because the reported rationale describes WWE’s view of the content, not the mechanics of how the decision was reached or documented.
Rose’s account
In her January 2023 appearance on Tamron Hall, Rose described the release as painful and gave a different account of what she was told. She said officials did not tell her that the FanTime page was the reason. She also said confidentiality limited what she could discuss, so she did not give a full account of the decision.

Her comments on the release and on WWE were direct:
- On losing the title: “Losing the title was obviously a gut punch.”
- On being released: “I’m hurt… I’m very hurt. No one wants to get that call that you’re being fired from any job.”
- On how she viewed the decision: “Everything happens for a reason, and I can’t even say I was wronged because I’m so forever grateful for everything that the WWE has presented me with.”
Rose’s statements do not confirm the reported reason. Her account says that she was not told the page was the reason, and the reporting says WWE sources held that view. Those two positions are not the same thing, and the coverage does not resolve the gap between them.

Shawn Michaels’ comments
Shawn Michaels spoke about the consequences for the creative direction of the Rose and Perez storyline. ComicBook.com, in February 2023 coverage, quoted him: “We would have loved for things to have gone differently and been able to build our story with Roxanne, but obviously I was put in a position where I had to make a call creatively and so we did that.”
The quote describes a creative decision and what it cost the story. It does not explain the contract decision, and it should not be read as a statement about the release itself.
