Kelly Clarkson’s rehearsal mistakes on “Blaze of Glory” were a prompter problem, not a failure to sing the song. In blooper footage from her Kellyoke cover, she repeatedly got the words wrong; Jon Bon Jovi then appeared onstage and encouraged her.
Why did Kelly Clarkson struggle with “Blaze of Glory”?
Clarkson said she knew the song but kept saying the wrong lyrics because she could not read them on the prompter. Country Living quoted her describing the rehearsal: “That is the song that almost killed me. Not even cause I can’t sing it. I just can’t read, whatever.” She also said it went wrong “like a gazillion times.” Country Living’s June 2024 account gives her explanation.
What happens in the rehearsal bloopers?
The footage is from rehearsal for Clarkson’s Kellyoke cover. TheWrap reports that she repeatedly stopped to correct the lyrics. At one point, she joked, “It got so ridiculous, I had to let it go like Elsa for a minute.” Jon Bon Jovi then walked onstage, and Clarkson dropped to the floor. He hugged her and said, “Come on, girlfriend!” TheWrap’s report describes the moment; Taste of Country also identifies the clip as rehearsal bloopers and describes Bon Jovi encouraging her.
What is the song’s connection to Young Guns 2?
“Blaze of Glory” was written for the film Young Guns 2. Country Living’s 2024 report says the song won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song in 1991. That film and award context helps explain why the Kellyoke performance was a recognizable Bon Jovi song, but Clarkson’s reported difficulty was with reading the prompter during rehearsal.
