Her testimony came after Perry’s side won the earlier fight over whether the 2020 sale contract would stand. By November 2025, news reports said the court had awarded $1,842,142.84 in damages; a May 2026 report said Perry also received more than $3 million in legal fees. Those reported awards are separate from the estate’s purchase price.
What Perry meant by “Justice”
Perry gave the one-word answer during remote testimony in Los Angeles on August 26, 2025, when asked whether she stood to gain money or anything else from the trial. The Associated Press reported that she did not directly say she would gain money if she won. She added: “I stand to lose money if it doesn’t work in my favor.”

The exchange took place in the later damages proceedings, not in the original trial over the validity of the sale contract. “Justice” was Perry’s answer under questioning; it was not a court ruling or an explanation of the judge’s reasoning. The AP described the later claims as involving lost rental income and alleged maintenance expenses.
How the Montecito estate dispute unfolded
The 2020 sale
Perry’s side agreed to buy the Montecito estate from Carl Westcott for $15 million in 2020. Westcott later sought to undo the transaction, arguing that his health and medication affected his capacity to enter the agreement. Montecito is near Santa Barbara, though some headlines use “Santa Barbara” more broadly.

The contract ruling
Perry’s side prevailed in the first trial in 2023 on whether the sale contract would stand. The Los Angeles Times reported on Westcott’s capacity challenge and the court’s ruling. That contract decision was a different phase from the later proceedings about financial losses and property-related claims.
The damages and fee reports
In November 2025, Realtor.com reported that Judge Joseph Lipner awarded $1,842,142.84 in damages, less than Perry’s side had sought. In May 2026, Digital Music News reported that Perry received more than $3 million in legal fees in addition to the earlier damages ruling. These are figures reported by news outlets; the signed orders were not available in the cited reporting summarized here, and later procedural developments are not established.

What the reported amounts mean
| Amount | What it refers to | Reported by |
|---|---|---|
| $15 million | Agreed price for the estate in the 2020 transaction; not a damages award. | Associated Press, 2025 |
| $1,842,142.84 | Reported damages award in November 2025; the report said it was below the amount sought. | Realtor.com, 2025 |
| More than $3 million | Reported legal-fee award in May 2026, described as additional to the earlier damages ruling. | Digital Music News, 2026 |
The amounts concern different categories. They should not be added together as a definitive total without the orders, which would establish precisely what each award covers and whether any later ruling changed it. The available reports also do not establish whether an appeal or modification followed.

Reporting identified Orlando Bloom’s company as the legal owner of the home. The Independent said Bloom was identified as the buyer through an LLC he had set up, and the Associated Press likewise described Bloom as the person whose company officially owned the house. Perry should therefore not be casually described as the record owner. The AP also identified her business manager, Bernie Gudvi, as the technical defendant in the first phase and said he brought the later claims on her side.
