Ritchie described the publication as a “shocking invasion” of her privacy and said she had decided to seek professional help after recognising what she called an “unhealthy reliance on alcohol.” Those details are her account as reproduced in contemporaneous news reports, not an independent diagnosis or legal finding.
What happened in December 2022
On 8 December, PerthNow and 7NEWS reported that the Daily Mail Australia had published photographs of Ritchie at a private mental health clinic in Sydney. The reports placed the photographs against the backdrop of a break she had announced from her radio show for the remainder of 2022.
In a statement from her Instagram account reproduced by both outlets, Ritchie said she had faced an emotionally challenging year, a relentless schedule, stress and lack of sleep. She said she had recognised an “unhealthy reliance on alcohol” and chose to use her break to seek help from professionals who specialised in the area. This is what Ritchie said at the time; the reports do not establish her diagnosis, treatment details or present health.
What Ritchie said about the photographs
Ritchie objected to the publication of images taken at the clinic, describing it as “a shocking invasion of my privacy.” She said the Daily Mail’s conduct had forced her to issue a public statement about a private health matter, and characterised the publication as an attempt to shame her. These are Ritchie’s stated views, as quoted in the reports.

The incident is best described as Ritchie’s public condemnation of the photographs and the outlet’s publication of them.
The radio break preceded the clinic photographs
PerthNow reported that Ritchie announced in October 2022 that she would take a break from her radio show for the rest of the year. She cited significant change and a need for time for herself and her family. In her later statement, she said she used that break to seek professional help.

In February 2025, 7NEWS reported a separate episode in which Ritchie criticised paparazzi coverage and said she would take a break from her radio show to focus on her mental health. That later report is not the December 2022 clinic-photograph story, and it does not establish anything about her health in the intervening period.
