Jon’s lasting hurt, he said in 2025, is about the way Sambora walked out during the tour—not a publicly described major feud. Jon has also said there was no big falling out and that Sambora could perform with the band if he wanted to. The public comments explain Jon’s perspective; they do not establish whether the two have spoken privately since September 2025.
Why Jon says they are not in contact
In March 2024, Jon told Loudwire, discussing an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock: “We’re not in contact because he’s not in the organization any longer.” He connected the distance to Sambora’s departure, adding that although there was “love forever,” it had been 11 years since Sambora “just didn’t show up anymore.”

That is Jon’s explanation of their contact status, not confirmation that he and Sambora have never communicated privately or that one specific dispute accounts for the distance.
What happened when Sambora left
Sambora left Bon Jovi during the band’s 2013 Because We Can tour. Jon’s later recollections emphasize the abruptness and its effect on the band: there was a show to play, and the group had to arrange coverage. In a recollection reported by Us Weekly, Jon said the missed appearance was at a sold-out Calgary stop and that he recalled no fight or money dispute. Those details are Jon’s account of the episode, rather than an independently established account of Sambora’s motives.

Jon also said Sambora had not discussed his contribution to the 2024 documentary with him; the director interviewed the two men separately. The documentary, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, covers the band’s history and Sambora’s departure, providing the context for the renewed public discussion. Its current availability varies or is not established by the cited coverage.
Jon said there was no major falling out
In an April 2024 interview with the Associated Press, Jon said, “We never had a big falling out.” He characterized Sambora’s choice as prioritizing raising his child as a single father and said the door was open if Sambora wanted to perform a song with the band. These comments describe Jon’s understanding and willingness; they do not demonstrate that a reunion or private reconciliation occurred.

Why Jon’s later comments sound more hurt
In September 2025, Jon told MusicRadar: “My heartbreak with him is the way he walked out on us.” He also said, “I love the man, heartbroken that he walked out on us.” Those remarks make the lingering emotional impact clearer, but they do not necessarily contradict his earlier statement that there was no big falling out: a person can feel hurt by how someone left without describing the relationship as a major feud.
MusicRadar’s account also reports that Sambora cited family priorities and apologized in the 2024 documentary for how he left, while saying he did not regret leaving the situation. That is Sambora’s perspective as relayed in the report, and it does not establish that the two men have since resolved the matter.

What the public record does—and does not—show
- Jon’s stated reason for no contact: Sambora was no longer in the band’s organization after leaving.
- Jon’s central grievance: the manner and timing of Sambora’s 2013 departure, which Jon said still hurt in 2025.
- Jon’s other characterization: he said there was no big falling out, described Sambora as focused on raising his child, and left open the possibility of Sambora performing with Bon Jovi.
- What remains unknown: the available public comments do not verify whether they have spoken privately since September 2025 or fully establish Sambora’s reasons for leaving.
