The “new look” story dates to September 2021: Disneyland’s Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin recast Jessica Rabbit as a private investigator, with a trench coat and fedora described in contemporary reporting. PerthNow reported negative fan reactions, but its article does not establish how widespread or representative they were. The attraction’s current story still has Jessica starting her own investigative service.
What changed in the attraction?
Jessica Rabbit appears in Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, a Disneyland Resort attraction inspired by the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In its 23 September 2021 report, PerthNow described a revised attraction story and scene that presented Jessica as a detective, wearing a trench coat and fedora.
Disneyland Resort’s current attraction description says Jessica has decided to start a private investigative service and refers to her fedora. That establishes the character’s ongoing role in the attraction’s story, but the page does not give a date for when the change was introduced.
Why was Jessica Rabbit given a detective role?
The official attraction copy links Jessica’s decision to start investigating to the Toon Patrol Weasels’ return to Mickey’s Toontown. It does not offer a broader explanation for the redesign or attribute the decision to a named person. The story recasts Jessica as an investigator within the attraction; the available sources do not establish additional motives behind the change.

Were fans really outraged?
PerthNow characterized the response as outrage and reported negative fan reactions. Its article does not quantify those reactions or show whether they represented Disneyland visitors or fans generally. The headline is therefore a description of the report’s framing, not evidence that opposition was widespread.
How does the attraction connect to the film?
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is the source of the attraction’s characters and setting. D23 identifies Jessica Rabbit as a character in the film and Kathleen Turner as her uncredited speaking voice. The Disneyland detective storyline is an attraction-specific framing of the character, rather than a claim about the film’s plot.
