Jeremy Renner said he declined a proposed second season of Hawkeye after being offered half the pay he received for season one. He said the job would take about eight months and twice the work, and that he had asked only to be paid the same as before. Those details come from Renner’s account in interviews reported by Variety and TheWrap—not from a disclosed contract or a confirmed explanation from Disney or Marvel.
What Renner said about the offer
In comments reported by Variety on May 2, 2025, Renner said he was asked to return and offered “half the money” he had made for the first season. He said the second season would require twice the work and about eight months of his time.
Renner described the offer as insulting and said he had not asked for a raise; he wanted the same pay as season one. He also joked that the lower offer might mean the studio thought he was “only half the Jeremy” after his 2023 accident. That was his joke about the timing, not evidence that the accident caused the offer.
Who Renner said made the decision
TheWrap’s May 1, 2025 report likewise attributes the half-pay account to Renner. He said the offer came from accountants or “penny pinchers,” rather than Marvel executives. That is Renner’s characterization of the negotiation; the reports do not establish the studio’s rationale or provide independently verified contract terms. Both outlets said representatives had not immediately responded to requests for comment.

Did he rule out playing Hawkeye again?
No. Renner said he still loves the character and would like to play him again, while explaining that he felt he had to defend himself in this negotiation. Declining the reported offer is not the same as ruling out a future return.
Is Hawkeye season 2 happening?
As of GamesRadar’s 2026 report, no second season had been officially announced. The outlet discussed a cryptic costume image as a possible tease, not confirmation of a project. A possible return by Renner, his interest in the role, and an officially announced season are separate things; only the last would establish that season two is happening.

What the reported figures do—and don’t—tell us
The “half the money,” “twice the work” and roughly eight-month commitment are quantities in Renner’s interview account, as reported by Variety and TheWrap. No dollar amount, contract, competing offer or independent confirmation of the proposed terms appears in those reports. TheWrap describes season one as a six-episode run, but that does not independently verify Renner’s estimate of the time or effort a second season would require.
