That is her stated reason, given in her own words on a 2025 podcast appearance. The public record does not show that she never considered adoption. It shows that she described adoption as something she did not want for herself, and it places that answer inside a longer account of trying to conceive, undergoing IVF and eventually accepting that motherhood was outside her control.
What she said, and where it was reported
Three published accounts cover this part of her history. They differ in date and depth, so it helps to know which one a quote comes from.

| Harper’s Bazaar report by Joel Calfee on Aniston’s appearance on Armchair Expert | October 14, 2025 | Her comments on adoption, wanting her own DNA, and coming to terms with not becoming a mother. This is a secondary account of the podcast, not a transcript. |
| Allure interview by Elizabeth Siegel | November 9, 2022 | Her attempts to get pregnant, her IVF experience, and how she felt afterward. |

Her reason: a child with her own DNA
Harper’s Bazaar reports that Aniston answered people who suggest adoption by saying: “When people say, ‘But you can adopt’—I don’t want to adopt. I want my own DNA in a little person. That’s the only way, selfish or not. Whatever that is, I’ve wanted it.”
Two points matter for reading this accurately. First, she framed the answer as her own desire, not as a verdict on adoption. Adoption is a path many people choose for their own reasons, and her remarks do not speak for them. Second, the phrase “But you can adopt” is how the report describes what people say to her, not a separate statement of her views.

The fertility history behind her answer
In the November 2022 Allure interview, Aniston said she had been trying to get pregnant and had gone through IVF. She described it this way: “I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road.” She also said, “I have zero regrets,” and added that she felt relief at no longer having to wonder whether pregnancy might happen.
Allure’s coverage also cites IVF success-rate figures attributed to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. Those are general statistics, not a description of Aniston’s own outcomes, and the published passage does not date the data. They are not used here.
The marriage claim she rejected
In the December 2022 Allure cover profile, Aniston addressed the claim that her marriage ended because she would not have a child. She called it “absolute lies.” Her own account was that she tried to become pregnant. Rejecting that claim does not, by itself, tell us what she wanted beyond what she has said about her reasons.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the record does not establish
- It does not establish a timeline of when she first thought about adoption, or whether she ever seriously weighed it. Her statements describe what she wanted, not a decision process.
- It does not explain other people’s reasons for adopting or not adopting, and her answer should not be read as a general judgment about adoption.
- The Harper’s Bazaar quotes come from a secondary report. For the exact wording and surrounding context, check the original Armchair Expert episode before quoting at length.
Read together, her statements give one clear answer: she wanted a biological child, and that is why adoption was not what she wanted for herself.
