Jamie-Lynn Sigler has not named one formal cause for her divorce from AJ Discala. In a 2026 interview, she looked back on their marriage as toxic, complicated and messy from the start, and said she eventually realized she would not survive much longer if she stayed. That is Sigler’s retrospective account—not a court finding or an independently verified explanation of every event.
What Sigler says led her to leave
Speaking to Us Weekly on April 23, 2026, Sigler described the relationship as “really toxic” and “really complicated,” adding that it “started off really messy.” She said she needed a lot of proof before leaving and had to reach the point where she understood she was “not going to survive much longer” if she stayed in the marriage.
Her account suggests that the decision was not tied to one isolated incident. She recalled that Discala was still in another relationship and connected to his family when their relationship began. She also said she received her multiple sclerosis diagnosis early in the relationship and felt that, after investing so much, the marriage had to work. These are her recollections, not independently established findings.
Why it took time for her to leave
Sigler said she was embarrassed by the prospect of marrying young and then divorcing at 24. She felt she needed a lot of proof before she could leave. Looking back, she described herself as a young woman who may have been taken advantage of, while saying she did not think Discala necessarily believed he was doing that.

She also recalled looking through his phone and sensing that something shady was happening. In a separate Us Weekly interview published the same day, she reflected on how badly she needed Discala at the time. Those comments provide context for her account of the relationship, but do not establish a complete or independently verified timeline of its private events.
When were Sigler and Discala married?
Us Weekly reported that Sigler married Discala, her former manager, in 2003 and that they divorced two years later. Other accounts differ on the precise divorce year or marriage length, so 2003–2005 is the reported period; a more exact finalization date is not established here.

How the later financial allegations fit in
Sigler’s memoir, And So It Is…: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope, includes separate allegations about her finances. In coverage of the book, she said a forensic accountant identified hundreds of thousands of dollars missing and described portions of her Sopranos earnings moving through accounts, including a separate account she could not access. The Independent reported these claims on May 5, 2026; Us Weekly also covered the book’s revelations on April 23, 2026.
These are allegations in Sigler’s memoir as reported by the press. The cited reporting does not establish a court finding that Discala stole the money, or that the alleged financial conduct was the formal legal reason for the divorce. They should not be treated as a proven explanation for why the marriage ended.
