Isla Fisher missed Now You See Me 2 because she was pregnant during filming. In the story, Henley Reeves has a different reason for leaving: tired of waiting for answers from the secretive Eye, she walks away from the Horsemen. Fisher returned as Henley in the third film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, alongside Lizzy Caplan as Lula May.
Why Isla Fisher did not appear in Now You See Me 2
The casting change had a real-world explanation: Fisher was pregnant during production of the 2016 sequel. A 2016 Creative Screenwriting interview with writer Ed Solomon says the production replaced Henley with Lula, played by Lizzy Caplan, because of Fisher’s pregnancy.
That explains why Fisher was unavailable for the film; it is separate from the explanation the movie gives for Henley’s absence.
What happened to Henley in the story
Now You See Me 2 says Henley grew tired of waiting for answers from the Eye and left the Horsemen. Lula May then takes her place in the group. That in-story account is reported by ComingSoon.it.

So the two explanations answer different questions: Fisher’s pregnancy accounts for the production decision, while Henley’s frustration with the Eye accounts for the character’s departure.
Henley’s return in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
Fisher returned as Henley Reeves in the 2025 third film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. ABC’s Good Morning America reported her return when the trailer was released on April 30, 2025, and announced a theatrical release date of November 14, 2025. A later Moviefone interview with director Ruben Fleischer, published December 25, 2025, also lists Fisher as Henley and Caplan as Lula.

Why Henley comes back
ComingSoon.it reports Fisher’s explanation that Henley had been occupied with her private life and returned because she cared about the subject of the new mission. The report describes the antagonist as connected to human trafficking and money laundering, and says Henley’s return is not about an ego dispute or romance with Daniel Atlas. ComingSoon.it attributes those remarks to a Screen Rant interview; they are best treated as a report of Fisher’s comments rather than as independently verified direct quotations.
Why the third film includes both Henley and Lula
Fleischer said he wanted both characters in the third film because Henley had been replaced by Lula “without much explanation,” and he wanted to see them together. The remark appears in Moviefone’s December 25, 2025 interview. It gives the sequel’s casting gap a follow-through: Lula’s role is not erased when Henley returns.
