Heidi Anderson said she felt hurt and angry when Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw left Perth’s Hit 92.9 in 2017, because she felt they had disowned her. Her own departure from radio came later, in December 2019. In a 2022 account reported by PerthNow, she also described feeling boxed in by gendered expectations on air and struggling with her identity and mental health after becoming a mother.
Why Heidi Anderson said she was angry with Will and Woody
In an Experts Podcast interview quoted by PerthNow on February 22, 2022, Anderson recalled her reaction when McMahon and Whitelaw left Perth for a KIIS drive show: “I f…… hated them when they left because I felt like they disowned me.” The remark describes her feelings at the time; it does not establish a current feud or independently explain what her former co-hosts intended.
Anderson also reflected on the team dynamic. “I was boxed in,” she said, describing a radio environment where, in her view, women were expected to be front and centre while also being placed in a one-woman, two-men format and expected to behave a certain way. These are Anderson’s reported perspectives, not an independently established finding about a particular employer or colleague.
When the co-hosts left—and when Anderson left radio
The departures happened at different times. Anderson joined Hit 92.9 in 2013 after appearing on Big Brother Australia. The Perth run of the breakfast show Heidi, Will and Woody ended in December 2017, when McMahon and Whitelaw moved on. Anderson remained at the station and later presented breakfast with Xavier Ellis and Ryan Jon. By 2018, McMahon and Whitelaw were on KIIS drive.

Anderson announced her own departure from radio in December 2019, two months after the birth of her first child. Her initial public explanation was that she wanted to focus on motherhood. In the later podcast account reported by PerthNow, she described a more complicated experience involving mental health, a shift in identity after becoming a mother, pressure to succeed professionally and difficulty fitting into the team dynamic.
What the earlier account adds
Anderson’s 2018 comments to Mediaweek offered a different view of the moment McMahon and Whitelaw left. She said they had an open conversation, that she was sad they were going but happy for them, and that the trio had shared a good run and learned from one another. McMahon also praised Anderson’s influence on his announcing. Those comments do not cancel out her later recollection of feeling disowned; they show that her account included both professional appreciation and personal hurt.
