The explanation reported at the time came from an unnamed source, not Bravo: the source said Rossi and Alexis Bellino had “run their course.” Bravo declined to comment, so the specific reason for Rossi’s non-renewal was never officially confirmed. Rossi later returned for season 19 in 2025.
Was Gretchen Rossi fired from RHOC?
The clearest contemporary account says Rossi was not asked to return for season 9, rather than documenting an on-air firing or an announced resignation. In a September 25, 2013 report, Us Weekly reported that Rossi and Alexis Bellino would not return after season 8. Bravo declined to comment.

That distinction matters: the report establishes that Rossi was not invited back, but it does not provide an on-record explanation from Bravo or Rossi.
What explanation was reported in 2013?
An unnamed source quoted by Us Weekly said Rossi and Bellino “just had run their course,” adding: “Gretchen has been on the show a long time, and it was the same old story.” That is the source’s characterization—not a confirmed network rationale. The report did not establish that a particular storyline, conflict, ratings result, or audience reaction caused the decision.

Was cast tension the reason?
There was public tension involving Rossi: before the season 9 casting report, Vicki Gunvalson said Rossi was the castmate she would choose to leave, according to Bravo’s September 9, 2013 coverage. That shows a public disagreement, but it does not prove the disagreement led to Rossi’s non-renewal.
Bravo executive Ryan Flynn later described Housewives departures generally as often involving “a mutual understanding” rather than a straightforward decision by the network to tell someone to leave. His 2017 comments were about departures broadly, not Rossi’s specific case, and cannot confirm what happened in 2013.

Why did Gretchen Rossi return to RHOC?
Rossi returned in season 19 in 2025, making it inaccurate to describe her exit as permanent. Bravo reported that Andy Cohen said producers reconsidered her after seeing her on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. Cohen also said the return “had nothing to do with Scheana.” Bravo’s November 20, 2025 report presents that as the explanation for her later return—not as new evidence about why she was not asked back in 2013.
