Calling Garrick’s “ego” out of control or labeling him a “villain,” however, is an interpretation of the show—not a proven account of his motives or character.
What happens in the Merrifields’ Season 6 story?
TLC’s Season 6 family guide identifies Garrick and Dannielle Merrifield as a returning family from Buena Vista, Colorado. After earlier relationships with Roberta and Nathalia, they pursue Lorrana, who arrives from Brazil on a K-1 visa. TLC’s description says the couple have “just 90 days to get married”; that is the show’s account of the storyline and visa window, not independent legal analysis. TLC’s Season 6 family guide frames this as another attempt to expand the family after previous setbacks.
The official episode summaries make the emotional conflict visible. Episode 3 says Dannielle struggles to make room for Lorrana. Episode 7 focuses on the Merrifields rushing to finalize a prenup and facing major issues. Episode 8 says Garrick and Lorrana prepare to marry while Dannielle has mixed emotions; Episode 11 leaves viewers with the question of whether the family is expanding. The summaries describe plot beats, not Garrick’s private intentions. TLC’s episode list and show page
Why do some viewers see Garrick as self-focused or villain-coded?
The tension is in the contrast: the relationship moves toward marriage with Lorrana while Dannielle is described as struggling to adjust and feeling conflicted. A viewer may interpret that structure as Garrick prioritizing his own plan over his existing partner’s comfort. That reading explains why the title’s “ego” and “villain” language can resonate with some viewers, but it is an interpretation of the storyline, not an established fact about his inner life.

The series’ own framing invites attention to relationship decisions and their effects on the family. TLC describes the program as following families who decide it is time to bring in a sister wife, and its Season 6 materials present the Merrifields’ attempt as another possible expansion. Those descriptions do not establish that Garrick acted from arrogance, nor do they settle whether the arrangement was fair to either partner. TLC’s official show page and Warner Bros. Discovery’s August 13, 2025 announcement supply promotional context, not a verdict on character.
What the show does—and does not—establish
- Established in TLC’s summaries: the Merrifields pursued Lorrana after earlier relationships, Dannielle had difficulty adjusting and mixed emotions, and marriage preparations brought conflict.
- Reasonable viewer interpretation: the edit and described events can make Garrick’s plans appear to take precedence over Dannielle’s concerns.
- Not established by those summaries: Garrick’s motive, a diagnosis, or a definitive judgment of his character. “Ego” and “villain” are evaluative labels, not findings.
How later arrest reporting should be understood
Separate from the televised storyline, The Daily Beast reported on November 27, 2025, that Garrick Merrifield had been arrested earlier that week on domestic-violence charges and released from custody. The article attributed details about an alleged phone seizure and a threat to contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to an arrest-warrant affidavit reported by TMZ. It also reported that Lorrana told police she was living in the United States legally on a visa and did not want Merrifield arrested. The Daily Beast said it had contacted him for comment. These are attributed allegations and reporting about an arrest—not proof of guilt or a conviction. The Daily Beast’s November 27, 2025 report

The Colorado Judicial Branch’s Chaffee County page links to court and docket resources, but the page itself does not establish the outcome of Merrifield’s specific case. No final disposition is confirmed here, so it would be inaccurate to infer one from the arrest report or online discussion. Colorado Judicial Branch: Chaffee County
