What happens in Francesca’s Season 3 courtship?
Francesca enters the marriage mart without sharing Violet’s enthusiasm for its spectacle. Queen Charlotte names her the season’s “dazzler,” and at the queen’s behest Francesca meets Lord Samadani. But at the Innovations Ball, she encounters Lord John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin, and their connection develops on a quieter register.
Netflix describes Francesca and John as comfortable in silence: their bond does not depend on constant conversation or grand displays. Dodd said, “John doesn’t try and change Francesca. There’s a really beautiful thing about being comfortable with someone.” She added that love “can be a companionship and safety,” and said their relationship differs from those viewers have seen with Francesca’s siblings. Who is Michaela Stirling?
The finale introduces Michaela Stirling, John’s cousin. Netflix identifies Michaela as a gender-swapped adaptation of Michael Stirling, a character in Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked. Francesca is left speechless at their meeting, and showrunner Jess Brownell says book readers will recognize the significance. Yes. Francesca’s story is connected to Quinn’s When He Was Wicked, which features Michael Stirling. The series changes that character to Michaela, so the novel is relevant source material, not a guarantee that later screen events will follow the book exactly.
