Fans have a concrete reason to question some of Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi’s storyline: in her responses in their annulment case, as reported by Starcasm in 2025, Angela described certain scene-based claims as involving TLC-scripted scenes. That specific claim is what started the suspicion. It does not establish that the relationship, or every dramatic moment in it, was fake. The reporting describes a mix of admissions and denials, and the two questions are different enough to keep separate.
The court-response claim behind the suspicion
According to Starcasm’s 2025 coverage, Angela denied many of the scene-based assertions in Michael’s attorney’s list of requests. For some of those denials, she said the scene in question was TLC-scripted and that Michael knew it. The outlet quoted her response directly:

“Petitioner denies the matter set forth in this request as this was a TLC-scripted scene and the Respondent is acutely aware this was a TLC-scripted scene.”
Read that sentence carefully. It is Angela’s stated position in a court filing, as quoted by one outlet. It is not a court finding, and it is not a TLC statement confirming that any scene was scripted. Fans treat it as a lead because it is one of the few places where a party to the storyline describes a specific scene as produced rather than spontaneous.

What the reporting actually supports
The same coverage does not present Angela as denying everything. Starcasm reported that she admitted to some scene-related facts and to several relationship facts, including that the couple married in Nigeria on January 27, 2020. Those admissions matter because they anchor the relationship itself in a point both sides appear to accept.
Starcasm also described the attorney’s list as containing more than 140 facts. That number describes how many items were in the list. It does not mean more than 140 allegations were proven, and it does not mean each item was disputed in the same way.
How the parties’ accounts diverge
An April 2025 report from Ashley’s Reality Roundup described the parties’ accounts as differing on relationship details and on some filmed moments. At the time of that report, Michael had not yet responded to Angela’s recent claims. That was a status as of April 2025. Later statements from either party may exist, and this article does not treat Michael’s silence in April 2025 as his position today.
Broader franchise context: producer prompting
Angela’s court responses are about one storyline. Other former participants have described how production works on the show more generally, and that context explains why viewers look hard at reality-TV scenes.

Women’s Health reported that former participants Chris Thieneman and Nikki Cooper described producers prompting cast members or feeding lines for a specific scene. Thieneman said, in response to whether 90 Day Fiancé is scripted: “Well, absolutely parts of it is. No question.” Cooper said she would not describe the show as having a complete written script, but that producers sometimes suggest actions or things to say.

These are participants describing their own experiences. They are not official TLC policy, and they say nothing specific about the Deem and Ilesanmi scenes. They show that prompting and scripted elements happen on the franchise, which makes the Angela claim plausible to discuss. They do not confirm it.

Most of the online argument collapses three separate questions into one. Keeping them apart is the most useful way to read this story.
| Claim | What it means | What the reporting supports |
|---|---|---|
| Producer prompting or editing | Producers suggested actions, lines, or a reshoot, or shaped the footage into a narrative | Supported as general franchise context by Thieneman’s and Cooper’s accounts; not confirmed for this couple |
| A specific scene was scripted | A particular moment was planned or written in advance | Claimed by Angela in her court response, as reported by Starcasm; not independently verified |
| The relationship was fabricated | The marriage or the couple’s relationship was staged from start to finish | Not supported; the reporting includes admissions of relationship facts, including the January 27, 2020 Nigeria marriage |
A scene can be shaped by production while the relationship behind it is real, and a disputed scene does not by itself prove the whole storyline is false. The sweeping version of the claim, that all of the drama was staged, is the one the available reporting does not establish.

- Court status: The reporting reviewed for this article does not establish whether the annulment case is still active, resolved, or has produced rulings beyond the filings described in 2025.
- Michael’s response: The April 2025 account says he had not responded to Angela’s recent claims at that time. Any later statement should be checked directly.
- Production records: No public production documentation, TLC statement, or independent finding about these specific scenes was identified in the coverage reviewed.
- Industry-wide rates: No authoritative figure on how often 90 Day Fiancé scenes are scripted or staged exists in this coverage, so no percentage should be assumed.
How to judge future claims about this storyline
- Identify who is making the claim: a party to the case, a former cast member, or an outlet paraphrasing either.
- Check whether the statement describes a specific scene or the show in general.
- Look for the date. A 2025 court response may have been superseded by later filings or statements.
- Separate scene-level production influence from claims about the relationship itself.
On the evidence reported so far, skepticism about how specific scenes were produced is reasonable. Calling the entire relationship or every dramatic moment fabricated goes beyond what the reporting shows.
