Emma Watson’s “You’ve been telling everyone I pounced on you!” remark was a playful call-out about Daniel Radcliffe’s description of their kiss in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1—not evidence of a serious falling-out. The story is easy to mix up with a separate, later kiss between Watson and Rupert Grint.
What was the awkward exchange between Watson and Radcliffe?
Watson later recalled confronting Radcliffe after hearing how he had talked about their on-screen kiss. In her account, she told him, “You’ve been telling everyone I pounced on you!” Radcliffe replied that he had not used those words and said he had rated her kissing “ten out of ten.” The exchange comes from Watson’s recollection; it reads as teasing, not as a documented feud.

Which Harry Potter scene were they talking about?
They were discussing the kiss between Harry and Hermione in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. In a 2010 TV Guide report, Radcliffe said the kiss was “quite enjoyable” and that he “quite liked it.” Watson described the experience differently: she called it a “weird social experiment” and said Radcliffe was a good kisser.
Watson also said in a separate interview that the scene was filmed on a closed set and that she was nervous about how it would feel. She recalled Radcliffe’s humor helping them laugh through the awkwardness.

How was the Rupert Grint kiss different?
The later kiss that involved Watson and Grint was a different scene: Ron and Hermione’s kiss in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. In 2022 reunion coverage, Watson said she and Grint kept laughing during the dramatic scene and that she feared they would not manage to film it seriously. Radcliffe recalled joking that he would come to watch them kiss; he said he had been told he was “being an absolute d***” for the threat.
| Scene | Actors | Film | What Radcliffe’s comment concerned |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harry and Hermione’s kiss | Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson | Deathly Hallows: Part 1 | His description of the kiss prompted Watson’s “pounced on you” recollection. |
| Ron and Hermione’s kiss | Rupert Grint and Emma Watson | Deathly Hallows: Part 2 | His joke about coming to watch the kiss. |
Was it a real confrontation or a feud?
The accounts describe awkwardness, jokes and friendly teasing around scenes the actors found unusual to perform. They do not establish a serious confrontation or an ongoing personal rift. A separate Rotten Tomatoes interview about Order of the Phoenix concerns Hermione explaining why Cho cried after kissing Harry; it is not the source of Watson’s “pounced on you” remark.
