What happened to Trigg Kiser
Arizona’s Family reported that Trigg was pulled from a backyard swimming pool at the family’s Chandler home before 7 p.m. on May 12, 2025. Officers began CPR, paramedics arrived, and he was taken to a hospital, where he died on May 18, according to the report. At the time, police had not publicly explained what led to the drowning or whether the pool had a barrier. Those facts do not establish a cause or assign fault. Arizona’s Family reported the incident and filing on May 29, 2025.
Why Kiser is suing over the records
Kiser filed suit on May 27, 2025, seeking to block disclosure of records concerning her son’s death. Her complaint described the requested material as graphic, distressing, and intimate, and argued that releasing it would not help the public assess government accountability. The complaint stated: “The records requested presumably reveal graphic, distressing and intimate details of Trigg’s death that have no bearing on government accountability.” That is Kiser’s legal position, not a court finding.
Arizona’s Family reported that the lawsuit said more than 100 public-record requests had been submitted to Chandler and the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner. That figure is the complaint’s reported count, not an independently audited total.

What the court has decided—and what remains unclear
A July 31, 2025 report by People, republished by AOL, said Kiser’s legal team was seeking additional redactions to two pages of a Chandler Police Department report. The report also described a June 3 order granting temporary confidentiality for Kiser’s declaration and broader privacy request while evidence was reviewed. These are reported procedural steps; they do not show that every record was sealed or that the dispute was finally resolved. AOL’s July 31, 2025 account describes those developments.
The reporting available here does not establish the final disposition of all disputed records from a primary court docket as of October 8, 2026. It would therefore be inaccurate to say that all records remain sealed, that the lawsuit has ended, or that a particular later order is final without checking the case docket and the order itself.

How Arizona court-record access works
The Arizona Judicial Branch’s eAccess portal provides online access to eligible Superior Court case records, but not every record is available online. The branch says certain cases and documents may be unavailable if sealed, closed to the public by law, court rule, or court order, or withheld to protect sensitive or confidential information. That is general information about the portal, not a case-specific ruling about Kiser’s lawsuit. Arizona Judicial Branch: eAccess.

The competing interests in the case
- Privacy: Kiser’s complaint argues that releasing intimate material about her child’s death would cause harm without serving accountability.
- Public access: Requests for records can reflect an interest in understanding how public agencies handled an investigation. The lawsuit disputes whether the particular material sought would contribute to that purpose.
- The court’s role: The court must address the records and legal arguments before it. Temporary confidentiality or limited redactions do not, by themselves, decide the status of every record.
