Elle Macpherson returned to a fashion-week catwalk on 4 March 2024, opening the PayPal Runway at Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Royal Exhibition Building. She said she felt “better now than ever,” and described the appearance as a celebration and an opportunity to support Australian designers—not as the result of any specific health or wellness treatment.
Why Elle Macpherson returned to the runway
In a Today show interview reported by PerthNow, Macpherson said: “I got to tell you, I feel better now than ever. My 40s were kind of sketchy years. But now I feel like I’m really in my element.” That is her personal description, not a medical finding.
She also explained the fashion-related reasons she was glad to take part: “(Walking at PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival) was a celebration. It was wonderful to be wearing all those young Australian designers… and supporting these Australian designers that have been breaking ground overseas. I had a great time.”
When and where she walked
Macpherson opened the PayPal Runway on Monday, 4 March 2024, at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building. PayPal’s 22 February 2024 announcement called it her first catwalk appearance in 14 years. Contemporaneous coverage places her previous fashion-week runway appearance with Louis Vuitton in Paris in 2010; the “14 years” figure is PayPal’s description of the interval.

The event was part of Melbourne Fashion Festival’s consumer-facing runway program. The Guardian described the festival’s shows as see-now, buy-now and reported that a third-row ticket for this 2024 event cost A$139. That is a historical price for this show, not a current ticket price.

The Guardian reported that Macpherson walked in two shows that evening. The multi-brand runway also featured Martin Grant, Ngali, Anna Quan and Oroton. The outfit descriptions identify the labels, but do not establish current availability, prices or where to buy those exact runway garments.

In its advance announcement, Macpherson said she was honoured to support PayPal in promoting Australian fashion globally. She said the platform could help creative talent and small businesses grow internationally by building customer trust, adding that she understood the challenges of taking a business global from personal experience.
PayPal Senior Director of Consumer Shane Capron called Macpherson “the perfect ambassador” for a runway celebrating Australian fashion businesses. In the same 2024 company announcement, Capron said PayPal supported 150,000 Australian fashion businesses and served 9.5 million Australian customers and 380 million PayPal shoppers worldwide. These are company-attributed figures, not independently verified counts. The Australian Marketing Institute also repeated PayPal’s claim that 45% of its Australian fashion-business customers used the platform to sell internationally; its article did not provide a methodology for that figure.
