Elle King said Rob Schneider’s public apology “means nothing” because he delivered it on Tucker Carlson’s show, a venue she called “a double negative.” Her remark followed a public exchange about her account of their strained relationship: King spoke about her childhood on a podcast, Schneider apologized two days later, and King later explained why the televised apology did not satisfy her. Schneider said in August 2026 that his door remained open, but that is not confirmation they reconciled or are in contact.
What did Elle King say about Rob Schneider’s apology?
In a September 2024 interview with People, King said she had not expected her earlier comments to go viral. She described speaking about her childhood and her own truth, rather than trying to hurt her father. She then criticized the setting of Schneider’s response: “Ultimately, I think an apology on Tucker Carlson is like a double negative, right? Means nothing,” as reported by The San Francisco Chronicle and The Independent.
Her “means nothing” remark was directed at the public apology delivered on the show. The available reporting does not establish that it referred to a separate private conversation between father and daughter.
What led to the apology?
King discussed her childhood on Dumb Blonde
On August 12, 2024, King appeared on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast and discussed her strained relationship with Schneider. Reports of the interview describe her recollections of feeling neglected or lost in the shuffle as a child, body-related comments, and disagreement with his public views on LGBTQ+ issues. These are King’s reported experiences and allegations, not independently established findings. The interview and her later explanation were covered by The Independent and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Schneider apologized on Tucker Carlson’s show
Two days later, on August 14, Schneider addressed King on Tucker Carlson’s show. The Miami Herald reported him saying: “I want to just tell my daughter, Elle, I love you,” followed by, “I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly, I wasn’t and I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings.”
Why did King speak publicly?
King said she was talking about her own childhood, not setting out to harm Schneider. She also said she did not regret speaking publicly. In comments reported by The Independent, she said, “Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don’t have to carry it for the rest of your life.” She pointed to support for the LGBTQ+ community as a positive outcome of the attention surrounding her remarks.

Are Elle King and Rob Schneider reconciled?
The latest update in the cited coverage is Schneider’s statement on the Heretics podcast, reported August 17, 2026. He said his door was open if King wanted contact and that he was unsure whether she had accepted his apology. The report from Fox News and its account in Us Weekly convey Schneider’s position; neither confirms King’s current view, that she accepted the apology, or that they are presently in contact. A parent saying contact is welcome is not evidence that reconciliation has happened.
