In a 2019 interview with The Standard, Cameron linked starting therapy to her best friend’s murder: “I started in therapy when I was about eight, after my best friend was murdered by her own father.” Her phrasing gives an approximate age, not an exact one.
How Cameron later recalled learning about the deaths
In a Call Her Daddy conversation published February 4, 2026, Cameron described being home sick from school when she overheard a phone call involving her parents and her friend’s preschool principal. That account appears in a transcript hosted by Podscripts; it is Cameron’s recollection, not an independently established account of the events.
Cameron also recalled spending substantial time with her friend’s family, including staying with her friend’s father the summer before the deaths. She described him as an angry man. The interview does not provide grounds to add further detail about the crime.

What she said about her parents and the lasting effect
Cameron said her parents tried to put her in therapy because she was deeply disturbed by what had happened. In the transcript, she described their response this way: “they knew enough to put me in therapy.” She also said the loss continues to affect how she processes things. That is her description of its impact, not a clinical assessment.
