FCC Chair Brendan Carr reposted it the next day; that was a social-media action, not a formal FCC order or NBC decision. Meyers later answered the demand on his show.
Why did Trump call for NBC to fire Seth Meyers?
In his November 15, 2025, post, Trump called Meyers a sufferer of “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” claimed he had been seen in an “uncontrollable rage,” and described his program as a “Ratings DISASTER.” He then demanded that NBC fire Meyers immediately, according to TheWrap’s account.
Those descriptions, including the ratings characterization, were Trump’s assertions. The reviewed coverage does not provide independent ratings figures or verification of his claims about Meyers’s conduct. TheWrap reported that NBC representatives had not immediately responded to a request for comment when its article was published.
Did FCC Chair Brendan Carr support Trump’s call?
Carr reposted Trump’s post on X on November 16, 2025, as reported by Variety and TheWrap. The repost drew notice because Carr was FCC chair, but it was not an FCC proceeding, order, or formal agency action directing NBC to dismiss Meyers.

The distinction matters: the FCC does not issue broadcast licenses to television networks. It approves licenses for local affiliates that carry network programming, as The Washington Post explained in May 2026. Carr’s repost should not be described as the FCC ordering or formally endorsing a personnel decision.
What did Seth Meyers say about Trump’s firing demand?
Meyers addressed Trump’s post on his program. Fox News reported on November 18, 2025, that Meyers said, “It doesn’t make me special.” He also said, “I want to clarify that I take no issue with the president voicing his displeasure with my show.” Those were Meyers’s remarks, not an NBC statement. Fox News reported his response.

What is known about Meyers’s status afterward?
The Washington Post identified Meyers as NBC’s Late Night host in a May 2026 report and quoted him joking at an NBC industry preview event, “Or as the FCC calls me: ‘Next.’” That establishes how the Post described his role at that time; it does not establish his employment status on October 8, 2026.
A separate Senate resolution introduced in November 2025 records that Trump had posted on November 1 that Meyers’s commentary was “100% ANTI TRUMP” and “PROBABLY ILLEGAL.” The resolution is evidence of what the document says, not a judicial ruling that Meyers’s commentary was illegal or a finding about the November 15 firing demand. The resolution’s text is available from Congress.gov.
