If the bump lands at the exact point your sleep-sounds audio repeats, the file’s ending probably does not transition smoothly into its beginning. OBS can repeat a media file, but its Loop setting does not repair or crossfade the join. Check the boundary first; if the sound occurs at different times or the audio distorts more broadly, inspect your OBS mix and levels too.
First, find out whether the bump follows the loop
Listen through at least two consecutive repeats and note where the sound occurs. A bump at the same point each time is a strong reason to inspect the file’s end and beginning. A sound that appears at different times may come from another audio source, a scene or source event, or the mix rather than the loop boundary.
OBS Media Source can play common audio formats, including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. Its Loop option makes the file play again after playback completes; it does not ensure that the ending and beginning are compatible. OBS: Media Sources.
Tell a click from a broader bump
- A sharp click: A sudden jump in the waveform at an edit can create a click. A short fade may smooth that discontinuity.
- A broader bump or swell: A change in loudness or ambience between the file’s end and start may make the restart noticeable even without a sharp edit click.
- Distortion or loudness changes elsewhere: Check the mix and peak level as well as the edit. A lower overall level can provide headroom, but it cannot make an incompatible join sound continuous.
Audacity’s manual explains that a sudden waveform jump can cause a click and that fades can smooth an edit. Audacity: Fade and Crossfade.

Inspect the audio boundary
- Open the exact file used in your OBS scene. Confirm you are editing the same recording that the Media Source plays.
- Listen to the final seconds immediately followed by the first seconds. Check for a cut through a sound, silence at either edge, an abrupt level change, or a change in the ambient texture.
- Compare the join with the rest of the recording. For steady sleep ambience, the ending should lead naturally back to the beginning in both level and texture. If it does not, choose a more compatible edit point or overlap sections.
Repair the join with a fade or crossfade
Use a short fade for a small edit click
A short fade at the edit can soften a sudden waveform jump. It is a useful first attempt when the sound is a brief click, but it may not conceal a larger difference in ambience or loudness. Audacity notes that short fades can help avoid clicks at the beginning of an audio clip. Audacity: Fade and Crossfade.
Use an overlap when the ambience changes
For a more pronounced transition, overlap the ending and beginning and crossfade them: fade one section out while bringing the other in. Audacity’s Crossfade Tracks effect requires an overlap. Choose an overlap that sounds natural for the recording, then export and listen to the join repeatedly.

Choose the curve by listening and checking peaks
A constant-gain crossfade may dip slightly in the middle. A constant-power crossfade can keep perceived level more even, but may raise peaks. Neither curve is automatically right for every recording: listen for both a dip or swell and any increase in peak level. Audacity: Fade and Crossfade.
Test the result through OBS before going live
- Play the repaired file in the actual scene. Confirm the intended Media Source is active and that no other source is adding audio.
- Monitor the audio in OBS. Listen at the source and through OBS so you can distinguish a file defect from a problem in the scene’s mix.
- Record a representative test. Play through a repeat, then listen back to the recording around the join. OBS recommends monitoring audio and recording and listening back before going live. OBS: Audio Monitoring.
- Watch the peak meter during the loudest part of the join. Keep output below 0 dBFS to avoid clipping distortion. If it approaches or exceeds that level, reduce the level and test again. OBS: Understanding the Audio Mixer.
Judge the test by four things: whether there is still a click or bump, whether the join dips or swells, whether the ambience remains continuous, and whether the output peaks stay below clipping. Lowering the mix can address headroom; it does not fix a bad edit.

Check your rights to the sleep audio
Audio quality and broadcast permission are separate questions. YouTube’s Audio Library offers production music and sound effects. For Creative Commons tracks from the library, YouTube says to include attribution in the video description; check the track’s terms and consider whether your intended use extends beyond YouTube. YouTube does not make claims about rights for other libraries or off-platform uses. YouTube Help: Use music and sound effects from the Audio Library.
