There is no confirmed canonical explanation for why Dottore wears a mask. The available coverage describes it as part of his changing visual design, not as a stated way to hide an injury, protect himself, conceal his identity, or serve a medical purpose. Those explanations remain unverified.
What is confirmed about Dottore’s mask?
HoYoverse has not provided a verified explanation for the mask’s purpose in the sources available here. The mask is visible in Dottore’s designs, but its presence alone does not establish an in-story reason. Claims that it hides scars or performs a practical function should be treated as fan interpretation unless supported by an official statement or story material.
How do the manga and game designs differ?
In a July 11, 2022 comparison of Dottore’s appearances, ONE Esports described the manga version’s mask as black and white, with a look reminiscent of the Phantom of the Opera, and the game version’s as sleek with a metallic finish. That is secondary reporting about appearance, not an official explanation of why he wears it.
A community wiki search-result snippet also describes the game mask as beak-shaped and covering the eyes, but that detail could not be verified from the page itself. Treat the more specific shape and coverage description as tentative rather than established fact.

The mask could invite speculation about concealment, injury, protection, or medical use, but none of those purposes is confirmed by the available sources. The careful answer is simply that the motive has not been established; visual design is not proof of lore.

For a costume, fans can look for a Dottore-inspired mask or make one themselves. Generic cosplay pieces should not be mistaken for official or licensed merchandise unless the seller clearly verifies that status.
