Speed-o’-Sound Sonic did not become a monster because he cooked the Monster Cell with wine before eating it. The plot summaries say cooking disabled the cell’s transforming effect; Sonic instead suffered severe digestive trouble, and the weight loss he later noticed came from that illness.
Why didn’t Sonic transform?
Gale Wind and Hellfire Flame, two ninjas who had joined the Monster Association, offered Sonic a Monster Cell as a way to gain power and join them. Sonic was interested because he remained fixated on becoming strong enough to defeat Saitama. But he was reluctant to eat an unfamiliar item raw, so he cooked the cell with wine first. The plot accounts attribute his failure to transform to that cooking: the cell’s effect had been neutralized.
The detailed scene is recounted in the secondary summaries One-Punch Man Wiki’s “Monster Cells” entry and Sonic’s synopsis. VIZ’s Chapter 115 listing establishes the official chapter catalog context and dates the listing February 19, 2020, but its available page extract does not show enough of the scene to verify those specific details independently.
What happened after he ate it?
Rather than gaining a monster’s powers, Sonic developed severe stomach trouble, described in the summaries as diarrhea. He later noticed that he had lost weight and briefly interpreted it as evidence that monsterification had started. The account attributes the weight loss to the illness, not to a transformation.
