Kylie Jenner did not attend the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23, 2025, and no reason for her absence has been publicly confirmed by Jenner or her representatives. Contemporaneous reports placed her absence shortly after the sudden death of her longtime hairstylist and friend, Jesus Guerrero, and suggested grief as possible context. None of the reporting establishes that grief was the reason she stayed away.

Why the timing drew attention
Jesus Guerrero died suddenly shortly before the awards. He had worked as Jenner’s hairstylist for years and was also a close friend, so reporters connected his death with her absence. That link is one of timing. Coverage did not quote Jenner saying she stayed home because of his death, and it did not describe the two events as cause and effect.

The Independent reported that the exact reason for Jenner’s absence was unconfirmed and that it had sought comment from her representatives. Cosmopolitan likewise noted that Jenner had not issued a statement explaining why she was not at the event.

Family context and funeral support
El País reported, citing other coverage and a source cited by People, that Jenner spent the evening of the ceremony with Guerrero’s family and was helping with funeral costs. This is secondhand reporting about her whereabouts and support, not a statement from Jenner about why she skipped the awards.

The Independent quoted a statement attributed to Guerrero’s sister, Gris, on the family’s GoFundMe page: “Unfortunately, his passing came very suddenly and unexpectedly.” The statement describes the death. It does not mention Jenner or the awards.
Speculation that circulated
Harper’s Bazaar suggested that Jenner might have been traveling or spending time with her children. That was the outlet’s own conjecture. It was not presented as a confirmed explanation from Jenner or anyone close to her.

How to describe the absence accurately
- Use reported-context wording: “reports at the time pointed to the recent death of her friend and hairstylist.”
- Describe grief as a suggested context: “grief was suggested as a possible reason, but it was not confirmed.”
- Avoid saying Jenner confirmed she stayed home to grieve, that Guerrero’s death was definitively the cause, or that a representative explained the absence.
- Do not present relationship rumors or a deliberate snub as fact.
- Attribute the funeral-cost and family-visit details to El País and People, not to Jenner.
