The episode said she had departed “due to a personal situation.” Her exit followed backlash after old posts containing an anti-Asian slur resurfaced, but the show did not publicly identify the posts as its formal reason for removing her. What was said about Ortega’s exit
During the July 6, 2025 episode, narrator Iain Stirling announced Ortega’s departure, saying she had left “due to a personal situation.” That was the show’s public explanation on air. The next day, a show spokesperson declined to comment, according to the Associated Press.

The timing matters: the announcement came amid viewer backlash after old posts associated with Ortega and containing an anti-Asian slur resurfaced. But the show did not publicly say that the controversy was its formal reason for removing her. It is accurate to describe the controversy as the context around her departure, not as a reason the show officially confirmed.
What Ortega said after leaving
In a video and written response reported on July 10, 2025, Ortega apologized to the Asian community. She described the video as an accountability video and said she had not understood the word’s history and harm when she used it, adding that “intent doesn’t excuse ignorance.” These are Ortega’s statements about her understanding and response, not an independent finding about what she knew.

Ortega also said a follower had corrected her after an Instagram story in 2024. She said she agreed with the network’s decision to remove her, calling it punishment she deserved. The AP’s account of her apology and ABC News’ report describe those post-exit statements.
How her family and others responded
Ortega’s family asked for “compassion” and “patience,” while saying it did not intend to justify or ignore the posts. The family also condemned threats and attacks directed at Ortega’s relatives, friends, and supporters. Those descriptions of threats are the family’s claims, as reported by ABC News.

Asian American former contestant Belle-A Walker said she appreciated producers “for taking a stand and making it clear that racism of any kind is not tolerated,” and hoped the situation would draw attention to anti-Asian hate, the AP reported. Walker’s response should not be mistaken for an official statement from production.

The latest substantive public response established in contemporaneous reporting is Ortega’s July 2025 apology and written message. The available reports establish what she said then; they do not establish a later change in her position or a later official explanation from the show. The clearest account therefore keeps the statements dated: the episode gave a “personal situation” explanation, and Ortega later said she accepted the network’s decision.
