The most specific reason in circulation comes from a February 2, 2025 report by Elle, which said Grande “chose to take a break” after attending major award ceremonies for her performance in Wicked. That is Elle’s account, not a statement from Grande about the Grammys. Separately, Grande said in a January 2025 Variety interview, as quoted by Elle, that she was prioritizing acting and film storytelling over touring. Those remarks describe her work priorities. None of the sources available establish a scheduling conflict, a protest, an invitation status, or any other private reason tied to the ceremony.
What the reporting said
Elle’s February 2, 2025 article, written by Alyssa Bailey and titled “The Reason Ariana Grande Skipped the 2025 Grammys,” presented a break after a run of awards appearances as the reason. The report framed the decision as a pause following Wicked award-season events. It did not attribute a direct quote about the Grammys to Grande, and it should be read as the outlet’s interpretation of her schedule rather than confirmed first-hand testimony.
What Grande said about her priorities
The clearest statements from Grande on this period come from a January 2025 interview with Variety, which Elle quoted in the same February 2 piece. Two lines carry the substance:
- “I was considering a mini-tour between the Wicked films, but I’ve decided to prioritize acting for now.”
- “Performing will always be a part of my life, but I want to focus on this chapter of storytelling through film.”
Read closely, these lines explain why Grande was not planning a tour between the Wicked films. They do not mention the Grammys, a specific awards show, or a reason for skipping any single event.
What the sources do not establish
Several explanations circulate online without support in the reporting or the official records. The following are not established by any source we could check:
- A scheduling conflict on February 2, 2025.
- A boycott or protest of the ceremony.
- Whether she was or was not invited to attend or perform.
- Whether she would have attended had she won an award.
The Recording Academy’s January 24, 2025 performer announcement for the 67th Annual Grammy Awards named the artists booked to perform. Grande was not among them, but that release says nothing about whether she was invited, declined, or was never asked. Treating a missing name on a performer list as evidence of a snub goes beyond what the document shows.

Her 2025 Grammy nominations
Grande was nominated for three awards, according to the Recording Academy’s official artist record:
- Best Pop Vocal Album for eternal sunshine
- Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “the boy is mine,” with Brandy and Monica
- Best Dance Pop Recording for “yes, and?”
Those nominations confirm that she was in contention, but they do not show whether she planned to attend the ceremony, and they do not reveal anything about her reasons for staying away.

Reading the explanation fairly
The most accurate summary is that Grande’s public account of this period centers on acting and film, and that a separate report describes her as taking a break after a busy awards run. Nothing in the available material turns that into a verified reason for missing one ceremony. Readers who see a firmer explanation should check whether it cites Grande herself, and if so, which statement it quotes.
