Danielle Staub’s reputation on The Real Housewives of New Jersey grew from a string of highly publicized conflicts: the first-season dispute over a book about her past, Teresa Giudice’s table flip, a bitter season-two reunion and confrontations after Staub returned. Those scenes help explain why she became one of the franchise’s most polarizing figures. They do not prove that she is objectively one of the most disliked Housewives: the available coverage offers no cross-franchise audience poll or ranking.
Why Danielle Staub drew so much conflict on RHONJ
The show’s early seasons presented Staub amid disputes over her past and her relationships with the other women. In May 2010, The Washington Post reported that Caroline and Dina Manzo brought Staub’s past into the conflict using the 20-year-old book A Cop Without a Badge. The controversy divided the cast, with Staub’s ally Jacqueline Laurita caught in the middle.

That combination—personal history, competing accounts and group conflict—made Staub a central figure in the show’s most memorable early confrontations. It explains the image viewers encountered on screen, but not what every viewer thought of her.
What happened between Danielle Staub and Teresa Giudice?
The first season’s dinner-party confrontation became one of RHONJ’s defining scenes. Staub brought a copy of A Cop Without a Badge to the gathering, and the argument escalated until Giudice flipped the table. Contemporary reporting connected the confrontation with Giudice’s “prostitution whore” insult.

The Daily Beast described the scene and quoted Bravo executive Andy Cohen saying the season would be challenging because “none of the Manzos wanted to hang out with Danielle anymore.” Cohen added, “But look, we follow the story.” His comments described the production situation, not a measurement of audience opinion. Bravo later called the table flip an iconic moment in a 2019 retrospective.
How did Staub explain her side?
Staub defended her conduct as honesty. In an August 2010 TV Guide interview, she said: “I think I’m going to stand by what I always do and say, the truth, when spoken, is reactions from certain people that aren’t used to having themselves called out.” She also claimed her castmates talked over her and feared being exposed. Those were Staub’s explanations, not independently established motives for the other women.

Why did Danielle Staub leave after season two?
Staub left after the season-two reunion and did not appear in season three. Speaking to CBS in September 2010, she said she had walked away because she saw no prospect of reconciliation: “There was no peace in two years. And I just felt like I had done all I could do. There was not going to be resolve.”
Bravo’s statement, reported by TheWrap, called the reunion her last appearance at that time. Cohen said the hugs at the end were “a great way to end two seasons of bitterness between the women.”

What changed when Staub returned?
Staub returned to RHONJ in later seasons, and the conflicts continued in new relationships. In January 2019, she compared the breakdown of her friendship with Margaret Josephs to Giudice’s earlier table-flip confrontation, saying the falling-out had left her disappointed and heartbroken. Josephs, in the same Bravo report, described a side of Staub she did not like. Their accounts show that the friendship mattered to both women, but do not establish who was to blame.
The dispute over Jennifer Aydin’s text
In a November 2019 account of a filmed exchange, Entertainment Tonight reported that Jennifer Aydin said she had texted Staub an apology after leaving her out of an event. Staub initially denied receiving the message, then acknowledged it when Aydin offered to show her phone. Josephs called the exchange “rewriting history” in a confessional.

It was a specific disagreement about what had happened, rather than proof of a general character judgment. Staub said she believed the other women resented her willingness to “keep it real” and to be open about her past and growth. ET also previewed a later physical altercation between Staub and Josephs.

No comparative audience poll or franchise-wide ranking appears in the cited coverage. The record supports describing Staub as controversial or polarizing: it documents prominent conflicts, cast members’ differing accounts and Staub’s own defense of her behavior. The superlative “most disliked” is a provocative way to frame the question, not a measured finding about viewers.
