Critical Role paused its scheduled stream for the week of January 8, 2025, because the Los Angeles fires were directly affecting its cast and crew. Critical Role Foundation said the show intended to return to Exandria on Thursday, January 16; that announcement stated a plan, not confirmation that the stream took place.
Why did Critical Role pause streaming?
In a January 8, 2025 announcement, Critical Role Foundation said the evolving fires in Los Angeles were directly affecting the cast and crew, so the show was taking a break from streaming that week. The statement did not identify who was affected or describe production impacts beyond the pause.
The announcement came as fires, strong winds and evacuation notices were disrupting the Los Angeles region. The Associated Press reported on those conditions on January 8, 2025; its report is a snapshot of the emergency at that time, not a source for present-day fire conditions. Read the Associated Press report.
When was the show expected to return?
Critical Role Foundation said the show intended to return to Exandria on Thursday, January 16, 2025. The post does not independently establish whether that scheduled stream occurred. Read Critical Role Foundation’s January 8 announcement.

What is known—and not known—about the production impact?
The official explanation confirms that the fires directly affected cast and crew, but does not say which individuals were affected or whether anyone experienced injury, property loss or studio damage. It also gives no account of production operations beyond the break announced for that week. Those details should not be inferred from the pause.
For historical incident information, CAL FIRE’s January 15, 2025 Eaton Fire update provides a dated official account and links to safety and recovery resources. It should not be treated as a report on current conditions. Read the CAL FIRE incident update.
