Austin shared that explanation during a November 9, 2025 appearance on The Dumb Blonde podcast, according to E! News, which reported it on November 11.
Why did Coco Austin continue breastfeeding Chanel?
Austin described nursing as a way for Chanel to feel close to her. “It was more of a bonding experience,” she said, as quoted by E! She said Chanel was eating solid foods by about age one, so nursing was not, in her account, a substitute for meals.
Austin also said Chanel stopped nursing at about six. Those details describe Austin’s personal account in the podcast interview as reported by E!; they are not independently verified feeding or medical records.
What does pediatric guidance say about breastfeeding beyond infancy?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for about the first six months, if possible, then continued breastfeeding as solid foods are introduced for two years or beyond, for as long as parent and child desire. The AAP also says babies can thrive on breast milk, infant formula or a combination. Its guidance is general advice, not an assessment of Austin’s family or an endorsement of nursing until age six.

How to understand Austin’s account
Austin’s stated reason was personal: comfort and connection. It should not be read as medical advice or as a feeding choice other families should copy. The AAP’s guidance allows for continued breastfeeding beyond infancy when mutually desired, but it does not prescribe one duration for every family.
