In May 2024, Chelsea Becirevic said she planned to leave Adelaide for Dubai to pursue a long-held ambition to work for Emirates and travel. Contemporary reports said her partner, AFL ruckman Ivan Soldo, would stay in Australia for his Port Adelaide career and that they intended to try a long-distance relationship. Those reports do not establish that they broke up—or confirm their current relationship status.
Why did Chelsea Becirevic want to leave Adelaide?
In comments reported in May 2024, Becirevic said Adelaide had been difficult for her and was not somewhere she wanted to live permanently. “He had to move to Adelaide for his career and tbh it’s been a struggle for me,” she said, referring to Soldo. She also described the city as “just not for me permanently.” 7NEWS reported her comments on 25 May 2024.
Dubai, Emirates and travel
Becirevic said she planned to move to Dubai and pursue work with Emirates, an ambition she described as longstanding. “I’ve always wanted to work for Emirates, live in Dubai and travel the world. So that’s exactly what I’m gonna do,” she said, according to 7NEWS. PerthNow’s account, published a day earlier, also reported her plan to move to Dubai and noted that she preferred Melbourne or the Gold Coast as a long-term Australian home, with Sydney another possibility. PerthNow published its report on 24 May 2024.
A move framed as independence
7NEWS reported that Becirevic described moving alone as an opportunity for independence. The coverage presents the move as her personal choice to pursue work and travel, rather than as a confirmed separation from Soldo.

Did Chelsea Becirevic and Ivan Soldo break up?
The May 2024 reports said Becirevic and Soldo planned to continue their relationship long-distance while she moved to Dubai and he remained in Australia. That establishes what they reportedly intended at the time; it does not prove whether the relationship later continued or ended. The available reporting does not establish their present-day status, so a breakup should not be stated as fact.

He stayed at Port Adelaide in 2024
In October 2024, ABC News, reporting on an AAP story, said Soldo had missed Port Adelaide’s best-and-fairest evening because he was best man at a friend’s wedding. A proposed move to St Kilda had not proceeded; Soldo said he remained contracted to Port and had no intention of leaving at that time. ABC News / AAP reported the update on 16 October 2024.
He retired and planned to return to Melbourne in 2026
That later career context changed in April 2026. Port Adelaide announced that Soldo had retired from AFL effective immediately after ACL surgery and planned to relocate to Melbourne. The club said he had played 66 AFL games and won a premiership with Richmond in 2019. Port Adelaide’s announcement and an AFL report published 27 April 2026 describe his retirement and return to Melbourne.
Soldo’s retirement and planned move do not establish where Becirevic later lived or whether the couple remained together. His career update should not be treated as evidence of their relationship status.
