Celebrities join OnlyFans for different reasons: to earn directly from an existing audience, offer fans paid access or personalized interactions, and make content on their own terms. Joining does not mean a creator posts explicit material, though the platform remains strongly associated with adult content. The examples below are dated reports, not a current directory of active accounts.
Why are celebrities joining OnlyFans?
The platform gives creators ways to charge for access and interaction instead of relying only on advertising, sponsorships or traditional media work. For a celebrity who already has an audience, subscriptions and paid messages can turn some of that attention into direct income. That does not mean every celebrity uses every payment feature, or joins for the same reason.
Motivations also include closer fan interaction, control over how content is produced and presented, and sharing creative work outside established channels. A qualitative study by Ananta Soneji and colleagues interviewed 22 U.S.-based creators in 2022; its findings discuss platform features, visibility, mainstream acceptance and pandemic conditions among participants. It was not a representative survey, nor a study of celebrities specifically.
Do celebrities on OnlyFans have to post explicit content?
No. An account on the platform does not, by itself, establish what its creator posts. ABC News reported that Drea de Matteo had not done full nudity and that Cardi B said she would not post nudity. Other reported examples involve comedy, hair-focused material or foot-related content. These are examples of individual approaches, not evidence that adult material is absent from the platform or that all creators use it in the same way.

OnlyFans has described a wider range of creators in written evidence submitted to the UK Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee. It said: “It is a fundamental misconception that OnlyFans is a platform which was created for, and focuses solely, on sexually explicit content.” The statement reflects the company’s description; the platform’s association with adult content remains real.

These are reported payment routes, not a complete, current fee schedule. India Today’s March 2025 explainer reported a 20% platform share, but that secondary-source figure may be out of date; it should not be treated as a verified current payout split. Check the platform’s current terms for any decision involving fees.
Celebrity income anecdotes are not a reliable forecast. ABC News reported Drea de Matteo’s account of financial hardship and her use of paid messaging and personalized videos. She described her work this way: “I make my money doing basically cameos.” That is her personal account, not an independently audited earnings figure or evidence of typical creator income. The sources cited here do not establish a representative earnings distribution for celebrities or other creators.

What OnlyFans figures are available—and how old are they?
OnlyFans told the UK Parliament’s DCMS Committee in written evidence submitted in 2021 that more than two million verified creators had joined and more than 160 million subscribers were on the service at that time. Those are company-supplied historical figures, not current totals. Separately, the 2022 study’s 22 interviewees describe a qualitative sample, not the wider creator population.
The cited material does not establish a current, representative statistic for celebrity earnings or ordinary creator income. A viral claim or an individual’s reported milestone cannot fill that gap.

What the examples can—and cannot—tell you
OnlyFans can support direct payments, paid fan interaction and a variety of creator approaches. Celebrity participation may bring visibility to those options, but individual examples do not show what most creators earn, why all celebrities join, or what any account currently publishes. Treat named accounts and prices as dated unless current activity and terms have been independently confirmed.
