Cameron Mathison said he asked not to be paired with Edyta Sliwinska on Dancing with the Stars because he worried the pairing could make his wife, Vanessa, uncomfortable. The request was discussed on Cheryl Burke’s Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast in an episode published July 22, 2024. Mathison and Sliwinska ultimately competed together on season five and finished fifth.
What Mathison said about the partner request
The Apple Podcasts listing for Cheryl Burke’s Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans episode describes Mathison as having asked for a partner other than Sliwinska before joining season five. Its summary says he asked for his dance partner to be “anybody but Edyta.” The episode was published July 22, 2024, and runs one hour: Apple Podcasts episode listing.
E! News reported that Mathison’s concern was how the pairing might affect his wife, Vanessa. That is a description of his anticipated concern—not evidence that Vanessa asked producers to change the pairing: E! News report.
Mathison and Sliwinska competed together in season five
Despite the reported request, Mathison’s season-five partner was Sliwinska. They finished fifth, according to Soap Opera Digest: “ICYMI Cameron Mathison Interview”, updated March 18, 2022.
