The idea that Caitlyn Jenner spends no time with her children is an impression, not a documented fact. No public source measures how often she sees or speaks with any of them. The accounts that do exist describe relationships that differ from child to child and have changed over the years. They support the view that some of those ties are distant and were strained for a long time. They do not support the claim that she has no contact with her family.
Who the children are, and what each branch of the family has said
Jenner has six biological children, according to ABC News’ April 2017 interview with her. Burt and Cassandra are her children with Chrystie Scott. Brandon and Brody are her children with Linda Thompson. Kendall and Kylie are her children with Kris Jenner. She also helped raise Kris Jenner’s four children from a previous marriage. Public accounts treat these branches differently, so a single verdict about “her kids” hides more than it shows. The table below sets out what the reporting covers and what it leaves out.
| Family branch | Who is speaking | What the accounts say | Date of the account |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burt and Cassandra (with Chrystie Scott) | Jenner, in general terms | Jenner said she had been too often absent from her four oldest children’s lives during parts of the 1980s. No account reviewed describes contact with Burt or Cassandra individually. | ABC News, April 21, 2017 |
| Brandon and Brody (with Linda Thompson) | Linda Thompson; Brody Jenner, as reported by Us Weekly | Thompson said Jenner was not present through important childhood years and that there were years without calls or visits. She also said Jenner attended family events and described her as “a work in progress.” Brody said Jenner had given him a sincere apology. | Us Weekly, February 28, 2025; Brody’s comment on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, January 2025, as reported by Us Weekly |
| Kendall and Kylie (with Kris Jenner) | Kendall and Kylie, as summarized by CinemaBlend | Jenner appeared at a family dinner in The Kardashians, Season 7, Episode 2. Kendall described her parents’ relationship as distant and said she wanted Jenner included. Kylie called the gathering a good first step. | CinemaBlend recap, October 30, 2025 |
| Kris Jenner’s four children from a previous marriage | Not stated | Not stated in the accounts reviewed. | Not applicable |
What Jenner has said about closeness
The 2017 ABC News interview
In her April 2017 interview with Diane Sawyer, Jenner said she remained very close to some of her children and was more distant from a couple of them. She wondered aloud whether her transition or her children’s busy lives explained why they called less often. She then said, “I mostly reach out to them.” That is her own account and her own uncertainty about the cause. It is not a verified record of what each child felt or why contact dropped. The full interview is in the ABC News report on how her relationship with her children has changed.
The 2018 Broadly interview
E! News reported in May 2018 on an interview Jenner gave to Broadly the previous fall. She said keeping a close bond with her adult children was “very tough,” because they had their own lives and had moved on. This is the same pattern as in 2017: she described distance as something that came from both sides and from ordinary adult life, not from a single decision. The E! News article on the Broadly interview gives the context.

Past absence is a separate issue from transition
ABC News reported that Jenner admitted being too often absent from her four oldest children’s lives during parts of the 1980s. In the same interview she said, “There’s no excuse for not being a good parent, no matter how many problems that you have.” She described depression and isolation during the period when she was struggling with gender identity. The report does not establish that transition was the only reason for the distance. Readers should keep the two explanations apart. A history of absence that predates her transition should not be recast as a consequence of it, and later changes in contact should not be explained by the past alone.
Accounts from her former partner and her son
The most detailed negative account comes from Linda Thompson. In a February 2025 interview with Us Weekly, she recalled that Jenner had not been present for Brandon and Brody through important childhood years. She said, “He was absolutely right. [Caitlyn] was not there,” and described years without calls or visits. She also said Jenner attended family events, and that she, Brandon, and Brody were forgiving. Her summary of the relationship was “She’s a work in progress, but Brody and Brandon are very forgiving.” Brody said on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in January 2025 that Caitlyn had given him a sincere apology. These are attributed accounts, and they describe two sons and one former partner. They do not describe the relationships with the other children. The Us Weekly article carries Thompson’s full remarks.

The 2025 family gathering with Kendall and Kylie
A CinemaBlend recap published October 30, 2025 describes Jenner appearing at a family dinner in Season 7, Episode 2 of The Kardashians. Kendall said she “definitely wasn’t expecting my dad to be here, just knowing the relationship that my mom has with my dad. Not that it’s bad, it’s just distant.” She said she was glad her mother had invited Jenner and that she wanted her included. Kylie said, “I don’t know if my parents will ever be best friends again, but this is definitely a great first step.” The episode is a documented event, but it shows one gathering, not a pattern of everyday contact. CinemaBlend reported that it streamed on Hulu at publication, so check current availability before relying on that detail. The CinemaBlend recap has the full quotes.
What the public record cannot tell you
- Current contact frequency. No source reviewed measures how often Jenner calls, visits, or messages any child in 2026. The most recent relationship accounts are from 2025.
- Private schedules and feelings. Family-series screen time, social-media posts, and tabloid speculation are not evidence of private contact. Neither is the absence of such material.
- Children who have not spoken publicly. Burt, Cassandra, and Kris Jenner’s four other children have no individual account in the sources reviewed, so claims about them should be treated as unknown.
- Cause and effect. Jenner’s own explanations are uncertain, and the sons’ accounts describe what they experienced, not the inner reasons for it.
How to read a claim about her family
When you see a statement about Jenner and her children, check three things before accepting it. First, identify which child or branch it refers to, because the record varies sharply by branch. Second, check the date, since the strongest first-person explanation dates from 2017 and 2018, while the later relationship accounts are from 2025. Third, identify the speaker. Jenner, a child, a former partner, and a recap writer each carry different weight. A claim that merges these into one family-wide status goes beyond what the reporting supports.

Reporting from 2017 through 2025 supports a narrower description. Jenner has acknowledged distance and past absence, she has said she often reached out first, and her sons and former partner have described both hurt and later repair. Those accounts are uneven and time-bound, and none of them measures present-day contact.
