Bosch: Legacy ended with its third season, but Amazon has not publicly explained why it chose to end the series. The final season premiered March 27, 2025, and concluded April 17. Harry Bosch’s story continued in Ballard, so the end of Legacy was not the end of the character on television.
What Amazon confirmed about the ending
On September 6, 2024, Michael Connelly announced that season 3 would be the last, describing the combined Bosch and Bosch: Legacy run as a ten-season story with Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch. Connelly called the final season “a fitting close” to that run. His official Bosch television page also said the season drew on elements from his novels Desert Star (2022) and The Black Ice (1993).
Amazon’s season guide identifies season 3 as the final, ten-episode season. It premiered March 27, 2025 in more than 240 countries and territories, with the finale scheduled for April 17.
Why was Bosch: Legacy canceled?
Amazon has not disclosed a reason. TV Insider reported that Amazon had not confirmed why the series was ending. The report does not establish that ratings, production costs, creative decisions, or a planned endpoint drove the choice.

Amazon MGM Studios television head Vernon Sanders praised Bosch and Bosch: Legacy as defining series and pointed to more stories in the Bosch universe through the final Legacy season and the new Ballard series. His statement celebrated the franchise but gave no cancellation rationale. TVLine reported his comments.
Was season 3 always meant to be the last?
The public announcement establishes that Amazon designated season 3 as the final season, but it does not show whether that ending had been planned from the beginning. Titus Welliver said the team had discussed what a fourth season might look like, including Bosch working as a volunteer detective for the San Fernando Police Department. Those conversations indicate that a possible continuation was considered; they do not explain Amazon’s decision.

Welliver also suggested a feature-length continuation might be possible, but that is not confirmation that a film has been ordered. No fourth season of Bosch: Legacy has been announced.

Yes. The character continued in Ballard, which follows Renée Ballard as she investigates LAPD cold cases with help from Bosch. Amazon says Ballard appeared in the Legacy finale and that all ten episodes of Ballard season 1 debuted July 9, 2025. Amazon’s series page reports that all three seasons of Bosch: Legacy are also available on Prime Video; streaming availability can vary by territory and over time.
