Why were the band’s U.S. visas revoked?
On June 30, the U.S. State Department revoked the band members’ visas. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau publicly associated the action with what he described as the band’s “hateful tirade at Glastonbury.” In a quoted social-media statement reported by the Associated Press, Landau said: “Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.” AP’s report records that public rationale.
That statement explains how a senior U.S. official publicly characterized the decision; it is not a complete formal legal explanation for each revocation. The available reporting does not state the individual visa classifications, the specific immigration-law grounds or administrative records, or the visas’ current status.

How did the BBC and Bob Vylan respond?
The BBC’s response
The BBC said it regretted livestreaming the performance and that it should have cut away. It described the sentiments expressed as antisemitic and unacceptable. Those are the broadcaster’s stated judgments about the performance and its own coverage, not a statement of the U.S. government’s legal basis for revoking the visas. The BBC response is reported separately.
The band’s response
Bob Vylan rejected the antisemitism accusation and said it was being targeted for speaking about Gaza. The band stated: “We are not for the death of jews, arabs or any other race or group of people.” AP reported the band’s response.

No. On December 23, 2025, Avon and Somerset Police said its investigation had concluded and no further action would be taken. The force said there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction. It had shared initial enquiries with the Crown Prosecution Service, sought legal advice, and considered what evidence a public-order prosecution would require. The police statement gives the outcome; its account of the enquiries describes the steps taken.
This was an evidentiary decision about the prospect of a UK criminal prosecution. It was not a court ruling, did not adjudicate the U.S. visa action, and did not settle the political characterization of the chants.
