Blizzard said it would not hold BlizzCon in 2024 after “careful consideration over the last year,” but it did not give a specific reason for the decision. Explanations involving finances, staffing, scheduling, or operations have not been established by the public statement. Blizzard’s official site now lists BlizzCon for September 12–13, 2026; that later return does not explain the 2024 cancellation.
What Blizzard said about canceling BlizzCon 2024
On April 25, 2024, a Blizzard-hosted forum post quoted the company’s announcement: “After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024.” Read the announcement as quoted in the forum post.
The statement confirms the decision and says it followed a period of consideration. It does not identify a particular cause. No specific financial, staffing, scheduling, or operational explanation is established by that wording, so claims that one of those factors caused the cancellation should be treated as speculation unless supported by direct evidence.
Why earlier BlizzCon cancellation explanations do not answer this
Blizzard discussed health and safety considerations, changing public guidance, online engagement, and esports alternatives in an earlier cancellation update. That update concerned a different edition of BlizzCon; it cannot be used as the reason for the 2024 decision. Read Blizzard’s earlier cancellation update.

Blizzard also said it had paused planning for BlizzConline and wanted to reimagine a future event. That is part of the event’s broader history, not an explanation of why the 2024 convention was canceled. Read “Reimagining BlizzCon”.
When BlizzCon is scheduled to return
Blizzard’s official BlizzCon website lists the event for September 12–13, 2026. That is the company’s later plan for the convention, not evidence of the reason it skipped 2024. Check the official BlizzCon site for current event information.
