Twitch suspended the account the next day. Contemporary reports described a temporary suspension—not a permanent ban—and said his separate account, Asmongold, was not suspended in this incident.
What Asmongold said on stream
On October 14, 2024, streamer Zack Hoyt, known as Asmongold, discussed the Israel-Gaza war during a livestream on his zackrawrr Twitch account. He called Palestinians “terrible people,” described their culture as “inferior,” and said he did not care about Palestinian deaths. These were Hoyt’s statements, not factual descriptions of Palestinians.
Which Twitch account was suspended, and for how long?
Twitch suspended zackrawrr on October 15. Game Developer and Streams Charts reported a 14-day suspension; Dexerto reported that it was expected to end October 29, 2024.
| Account | Reported status in this incident |
|---|---|
| zackrawrr | Suspended October 15, 2024, for 14 days, according to Game Developer and Streams Charts |
| Asmongold | Contemporary coverage said this separate account remained unsuspended |
“Banned” appeared in headlines, but the reporting described a time-limited suspension. The separate Asmongold account remaining in place did not mean Hoyt could use it to get around the suspension: contemporary coverage noted Twitch’s rule against evading a suspension by streaming through another account. Streams Charts reported that zackrawrr had 1.89 million followers at the time; that figure is a snapshot from the suspension coverage, not a current count.

How Hoyt responded
October 15 apology on X
Hoyt posted an apology on X on October 15. He wrote, “Looking back on it, I was way too much of an asshole about the Palestine thing.” He also said, “Of course no one deserves to have their life destroyed even if they do things or have views I find regressive.” The statements were reproduced by PC Gamer and Dexerto.
Later apology video
In a later YouTube apology, Hoyt said he had intended to criticize religious extremism but had failed to distinguish that from generalizing about Palestinians. As Game Developer quoted him: “whenever I categorize everybody in the area as this like group then I’m the asshole and I was the asshole.”

What happened to his company roles?
Mad Mushroom, the game publisher Hoyt co-founded, said he would step away from his leadership role to work on himself and hold himself accountable. The company said his views were “antithetical to our mission.” OTK said it “denounces all forms of discrimination and violence, and that sort of behavior cannot be tolerated.” Game Developer also reported that Hoyt would step away from leadership roles at Starforge Systems and Mythic Talent.
The report did not establish that Hoyt sold or surrendered ownership stakes in those businesses. Stepping away from leadership and giving up ownership are different actions; the latter was not confirmed.
