Check that you are signed in to a YouTube channel that is not a Brand Account, have Allow gifts turned on, are subscribed to the channel, have interacted with it recently, and are not already a member there. Even when all these conditions are met, opting in makes you eligible—it does not guarantee you will be selected.
Check your account and eligibility first
YouTube’s recipient guidance says a viewer must meet several conditions to be eligible for a gifted membership:
- Be signed in to a YouTube channel that is not a Brand Account.
- Be subscribed to the channel giving the membership.
- Have interacted with that channel recently.
- Not already be a member of that channel.
Eligibility is not the same as selection. YouTube does not promise a gift to every eligible viewer, and its public guidance does not let a creator or another viewer confirm whether a particular account was eligible or selected. YouTube Help: Gift channel memberships on YouTube
Turn on Allow gifts—and check its scope
In an eligible live chat, select Allow Gifts or the pinned membership-gifting control, then turn on the switch. You can also go to the channel or a video watch page, select Join, open More, choose Gift Settings, and enable Allow gifts. The exact control may depend on the page where you open membership options.

Check whether you opted in only for one channel. YouTube says a channel-specific opt-in may not cover gifts from other channels; enable global opt-in if you want to be eligible across channels. YouTube’s membership-promotion guidance also provides a channel-specific allow-gifts link creators can share with viewers.
Make sure you are watching on YouTube
If you are watching a stream embedded on another site, open the stream on its YouTube watch page. YouTube says Live Chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. YouTube Help: Learn about live streams

Distinguish the purchase ticker from your gift notification
The buyer’s gift-purchase ticker in chat is temporary. It is not the same as a recipient notification, and its disappearance does not prove that gifts were not distributed. YouTube says distribution may still happen if the stream or chat ends before the purchase announcement appears.
If YouTube selects you for a one-month gift, it says you will receive a notification in live chat and an email. Check the chat and the email associated with the signed-in account. Check whether the membership was added
A gifted membership is non-recurring and lasts for up to one month. If you received it, use the channel’s Memberships tab or select See perks on a video page to review the benefits. YouTube’s instructions for membership benefits are at Use & manage your channel membership benefits on YouTube.
A quick troubleshooting order
- Confirm you are signed in to the intended YouTube channel and that it is not a Brand Account.
- Open the channel’s YouTube watch page, select Join > More > Gift Settings, and verify Allow gifts is on.
- If you want gifts on other channels, check that global opt-in is enabled, not only a channel-specific setting.
- Verify that you are subscribed, have interacted with the channel recently, and are not already a member there.
- Check the actual YouTube watch page rather than an embedded player.
- Look for a recipient notification in chat and an email, rather than relying on the temporary purchase ticker.
- If selected, check the channel’s Memberships tab or See perks on a video page.
If those checks do not resolve the question, the public help pages cannot reveal your account’s eligibility history, selection status, settings, or email delivery. A creator can share the channel-specific opt-in link, but cannot establish from a missing ticker alone whether you received a gift.

For creators answering viewers
Share YouTube’s channel-specific allow-gifts link and ask viewers to confirm the setting is enabled. Explain that opting in makes them eligible for current and future gifts on that channel, not certain to receive one. If the purchase ticker disappears, clarify that YouTube says gifts may still be distributed after the stream or chat ends; the ticker itself is not a recipient list.
