The series debuted globally on 1 March 2024. Apple described it as a comedy-adventure starring Noel Fielding as the highwayman Dick Turpin. Apple’s launch announcement provides the original series description and debut date.
Why did it arrive after the reported shutdown?
The timeline explains the apparent contradiction. Apple announced a second-season renewal on 3 July 2024. In January 2025, TVLine reported that production on that season had shut down, citing Deadline. That report concerns production; it was not an Apple announcement that the series had been canceled.

When the special arrived in October 2025, 9to5Mac relayed Broadcast’s report that Apple and the creative team had assembled a final episode from footage shot for season two. That is a reported explanation, not a detail confirmed in Apple’s episode listing. The listing confirms the special’s existence and release information, but does not explain how it was made.
Was the show officially canceled, and is this the finale?
The available announcements and reporting do not establish either point as an official Apple position. Apple confirmed a second-season renewal in 2024; later trade reporting described a production shutdown. 9to5Mac noted when covering the special that Apple had not officially confirmed the season-two cancellation or called the new episode the series finale. Apple’s listing labels it a special, not a finale. So “canceled” is shorthand for the reported production status, not a cancellation statement in the cited Apple materials.
