Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding’s relationship came under strain as Lee’s public profile brought unwanted attention into Harding’s private life. She described feeling insecure and miserable as people followed them and photographers waited outside their home; the couple took a break in 2016 and reunited about six months later.
What put pressure on their relationship?
The pressures grew after the couple went public. Lee and Harding began dating privately in 2014 and appeared publicly as a couple at the 2015 Australian Open, according to PerthNow’s 2022 account.
Harding said the relationship had been fun and exciting at first, but that the growing attention left her feeling insecure and miserable. “There were times we had people following us and photographers outside the house and that was daunting,” she said, as quoted by PerthNow. The attention was not just a public inconvenience; it made ordinary privacy feel harder to maintain.
Different experiences of being recognised
Lee said he had to accept that his work had helped create the situation. PerthNow reproduced his account from a Sydney Morning Herald column: “It was a really sad, tough time — and confronting because I had to accept that what I do for a living created the situation.” He also noted that public approaches he enjoyed could be annoying for Harding.

In a separate interview with Allhomes in February 2022, Lee said Harding found it difficult to adjust to people taking an interest in her and to occasional judgment. His perspective helps explain the mismatch: attention that could feel positive or routine to him was intrusive for her.
Questions about work, friends and identity
Harding also questioned whether she was getting work because of the person she was dating and whether her friends valued her for herself. Those doubts connected public scrutiny to her sense of independence and identity, not only to the discomfort of being photographed or followed.

The 2016 break and their reconciliation
PerthNow reports that Lee and Harding took a break in 2016, describing it as a six-month split. Lee later connected the breakup to Harding’s difficulty adapting to public interest and judgment in the Allhomes interview. About six months apart, they reunited.
PerthNow says Harding used the time apart to remind herself of her abilities, while keeping her job and friendships. She regained confidence, and the couple reconciled. The accounts describe a relationship strained by publicity and its effects on Harding; they do not establish a single incident as the cause.

What happened after they got back together?
A page dated August 25, 2026, from The Australian Women’s Weekly reports that Lee and Harding announced their engagement in 2024 and planned a wedding for late 2026. That is a reported plan, not confirmation that the wedding took place.
