In his telling, the show would have gotten a lively segment about The Real Housewives, and the missed booking stung more once Markle became the Duchess of Sussex. Two sources cover the story from opposite sides: Cohen’s remarks at BravoCon in 2023, and Markle’s 2022 conversation with Cohen on her podcast Archetypes. Together they establish that a pitch was made and turned down, and that Markle wanted to appear. They do not establish why the show passed.
What Cohen said at BravoCon
The clearest account of the regret comes from the Ask Andy panel at BravoCon in Las Vegas on November 4, 2023. TheWrap’s event report, published November 5, 2023, quotes Cohen directly, and Marie Claire’s recap of the same panel reports the remarks in similar terms.
Cohen placed the pitch in the period when Markle was on Suits. He said he did not watch the drama, and then gave his account of the outcome:
- “It was when she was on ‘Suits,’” Cohen recalled. “I can’t watch ‘Suits.’ I guess she was pitched and we passed.”
- He then repeated a line from his executive producer: “Wow, you really never know who’s going to become a duchess!”
The regret was about the segment he imagined rather than a rivalry. He pictured Markle “kiki-ing” with him, doing a shotski, and talking about Real Housewives of Orange County personality Vicki Gunvalson. His reaction to that imagined footage was blunt: “When I think that there could be clips of Meghan Markle kiki-ing with me and doing a shotski and talking about ‘Real Housewives’ star Vicki Gunvalson, I kill myself!”

Markle’s account from Archetypes
The other side appears in the season finale of Archetypes, published November 29, 2022, in which Markle spoke with Cohen. Elle’s report quotes her saying she had been eager to appear on Watch What Happens Live because she was a Housewives fan at the time: “I was so eager to be on your show [Watch What Happens Live] because I was such a Housewives fan at the time and I just couldn’t get booked, Andy!”
According to Elle’s account, Cohen acknowledged that he and his team believed she had expressed interest, and said that missing her would have been a major blunder. Markle also said she had met Cohen twice before, an encounter Cohen did not remember. She further described stepping back from watching Housewives once her own life had “its own level of drama,” a remark about the scrutiny around her life. That describes her viewing habits. It does not explain the booking.
The two accounts side by side

| Setting | Ask Andy panel, BravoCon, Las Vegas, November 4, 2023 | Season finale of her podcast Archetypes, published November 29, 2022 |
| Core claim | The pitch came during her Suits period and the show passed | She wanted to appear and could not get booked |
| On her interest | His team believed she may have expressed interest | She was eager to appear as a Housewives fan |
| Exact pitch date | Not stated | Not stated |
| Who made the decision | Not stated; he said “we passed” | Not stated |
| Reason for passing | Not stated | Not stated |
| Forward-looking view | His guess that she would not come on now | Not addressed in the reporting reviewed |
What the sources do not establish
Read together, the two accounts agree on the outline and leave the details open:
- The pitch date. Cohen tied it to the Suits period but did not give a date, and neither account puts a date on the pitch itself.
- The decision-maker. Cohen described the outcome in the first person plural. He did not say who on the team made the call.
- The reason. No source gives a documented rationale for passing, so any explanation beyond Cohen’s account would be speculation.
- Any dispute. The reporting describes a missed opportunity and a playful regret. It does not describe a feud, and Cohen’s remarks were not framed as a response to anything Markle had said.
Would she appear now?
Cohen addressed the present question only as speculation. He said he did not think she would accept, adding, “I think she’s kind of done with it. I don’t blame her. ‘You passed on me then and you want me now? No.’” That is his prediction from 2023, not a statement from Markle. The most recent statements in these reports are from 2023 and 2022, so nothing in them shows whether her position has changed since. Anyone repeating the story should present the answer as Cohen’s guess, not as her current stance.
