Alex Vesia was absent from the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series victory parade after a deeply personal family loss. The Dodgers initially said only that Vesia and his wife, Kayla, were navigating a family matter; on November 7, Vesia disclosed that their infant daughter, Sterling, had died.
What the Dodgers said when Vesia stepped away
On October 23, 2025, the Dodgers said Vesia was away from the team while he and Kayla navigated what the club called a “deeply personal” family matter. The full contemporaneous account was published by MLB on October 24. The team did not disclose the loss of their daughter in that October statement.
Why Vesia was left off the World Series roster
Vesia was omitted from the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series roster. President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said the club wanted to avoid putting pressure on the family and support them, adding: “This is so much bigger than baseball.” The decision followed Vesia’s absence from the team during the family matter.
For baseball context, MLB reported that Vesia had a 3.02 ERA in 68 regular-season appearances in 2025 and appeared in seven of Los Angeles’ 10 postseason games before the World Series. Those figures describe his season; they do not explain the family’s loss.

What was later disclosed about the family matter
On November 7, 2025, ESPN reported that Vesia had disclosed his daughter Sterling died on October 26. In the statement quoted by ESPN, Vesia wrote: “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th.” This later disclosure came from Vesia; it was not part of the Dodgers’ October statement. No cause or further medical details are established in the cited reporting.
Was Vesia at the victory parade?
November 2025 parade coverage reported that Vesia was absent from the Dodgers’ World Series victory parade. Parade’s report supports that account, but the reporting reviewed does not establish a separate parade-specific explanation from Vesia or the club.

During the World Series, Dodgers players wrote “51,” Vesia’s jersey number, on their caps in tribute, according to the Associated Press.
