In an August 2023 interview about Victoria’s Secret’s The Icon campaign, Adriana Lima said she kept modeling in part to encourage fashion to accept women at every stage of life. She was 42 at the time; the age belongs to that interview, not to the present.
What Lima said about continuing to model
Discussing Victoria’s Secret’s The Icon collection with PEOPLE, Lima described broader acceptance of women at different ages as a goal behind her continued work in fashion. HOLA reported her remarks on August 10, 2023.
“As you can see with the campaign, I [helped] change the fashion industry in a way that every woman, every lady, is accepted in every stage of their life no matter how old they are and accepted in fashion. That’s my goal, and that’s the reason I’m still modeling, still persisting, in being a part of the fashion industry. I think the industry is accepting that, and it’s really wonderful to see,” Lima tells PEOPLE, referring to Victoria’s Secret’s new The Icon collection.
The quotation is reproduced as HOLA printed it and attributed there to Lima speaking to PEOPLE. HOLA’s August 10, 2023 report provides the interview context.

Why representation mattered to her
Lima connected her continued presence in fashion with showing girls and women—including her daughter—that life and opportunity do not stop at a particular age. Yahoo’s search result for the PEOPLE story summarized her message as wanting to show that “at any age, anything can happen”; the full Yahoo-hosted page was not available to review, so that wording is supporting context rather than a separately verified interview transcript.
“That’s a wonderful thing, and that’s why I’m still here,” the Brazilian model adds.

Number two is that they embrace themselves and that they’re not afraid to grow up or become older. Every stage of life there are different perks, experiences and things that you’ll learn,“ she said, according to the publication.

Why the age 42 is historical
The interview was published in August 2023, when Lima was 42. Vogue reported that she turned 43 on June 12, 2024, so describing her as 42 is accurate only in the context of the earlier interview. Vogue’s 2024 profile supplies that later birthday context.

Lima presented The Icon campaign as an example of fashion moving toward acceptance across life stages. Her remarks document her own view and motivation; they do not measure representation across the industry or establish that women of every age are now accepted in fashion. The collection is relevant here as the campaign she was discussing, not as a current product recommendation.
