Why Nymphia Wind’s win carried personal meaning
Wind, also known as Leo Tsao, is Taiwanese. After her win, she told ABC News: “It’s very important for me to represent my country. Because I love Taiwan, and to be able to showcase that on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ means so much to me.” ABC described her as the first Taiwanese winner of the series.

Wind graduated from the University for the Creative Arts’ Fashion Atelier course in 2017. UCA also reproduced Wind’s words as she collected her crown and sceptre: “To those who feel like they don’t belong, just remember to live fearlessly and have courage to live your truth – and Taiwan this is for you!” In the same report, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen congratulated Wind, saying she was the first Taiwanese person to take the stage and win on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and thanked her for “living fearlessly.”
