Nick Offerman was the “Voice of God” announcer at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025. Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony; Offerman was the off-camera voice introducing presenters and winners.
Who announced the 2025 Oscars?
Nick Offerman handled the announcer role at the 2025 Academy Awards, according to Parade’s report from the ceremony. He was not the host: Conan O’Brien hosted the 97th Oscars.
Offerman took over the announcing role from David Alan Grier, who announced the previous year’s ceremony.
What does “Voice of God” mean at the Oscars?
“Voice of God” is the off-camera announcer who helps guide the live ceremony by introducing presenters and winners. In a 2019 interview, longtime live announcer Randy Thomas described the role as the voice that introduces presenters and winners and keeps the show moving. That interview explains the job generally; it does not identify the 2025 announcer.

What does an Oscars announcer do?
Thomas told the Academy that she rehearsed presenter introductions and winner walk-up lines with the script supervisor. The production team could continue revising the script right up to, and during, the live broadcast, so the announcer had to deliver lines steadily as the show changed.
As Thomas put it: “I think you have to have a steady hand and a steady voice to do this show. You have to not get rattled when things happen, or by the way that they say, ‘We’re going live to half a billion people in five, four, three…’ and yours is the first voice people hear on the show.” The Academy’s 2019 interview with Thomas offers background on the work, rather than evidence about the staffing of the 2025 ceremony.
