Judging by visual impact, match timing, and how strongly the move defines a wrestler’s offense, Goldberg is the strongest overall pick, with Edge, Roman Reigns, and Bobby Lashley close behind. That order is an editorial judgment: WWE identifies the spear as a signature move for all four, but does not compare their executions.
How to judge a wrestling spear
A spear is a running tackle, but its impact depends on more than the collision. This ranking weighs three things: how clearly and forcefully the move reads on screen; how anticipation and match timing make it land; and how much the spear serves as a signature or major finisher. A distinctive named version also matters, though it is not the same as evidence that one wrestler’s move is objectively better.
WWE’s performer profiles confirm that the spear is associated with Goldberg, Edge, Roman Reigns, and Bobby Lashley. Those profiles do not rank them. The order below is therefore a reasoned viewing judgment, not a measured statistic or neutral expert verdict.
The best wrestlers to use the spear
1. Goldberg: the most forceful, instantly recognizable package
Goldberg’s spear stands out for its blunt, explosive presentation: the move looks like a sudden collision rather than a carefully staged hold. It also forms a clear part of his signature offense alongside the Jackhammer. WWE’s profile says his WCW run from September 1997 to December 1998 ended with a 173-0 undefeated streak; that figure is WWE’s account of the run, not a statistic comparing spear quality. WWE’s Goldberg profile identifies both maneuvers as signature moves.

Goldberg’s status as the top pick here is an editorial call based on that forceful presentation and the move’s central place in his wrestling identity. It is not a claim that every fan must prefer his execution.
2. Edge: a spear built around timing and drama
Edge’s version often feels most effective when it arrives as a sudden counter or a dramatic interruption. That timing gives the move a different appeal from Goldberg’s more direct, charging impact: the moment of surprise becomes part of the payoff. WWE lists the spear among Edge’s signature moves on its Edge profile.

3. Roman Reigns: a major weapon in a controlled presentation
Roman Reigns uses the spear as a defining move in a deliberate, power-oriented style. Its impact comes from the build-up and placement as much as from the tackle itself, making it particularly effective as a major match turning point. WWE lists the spear as one of his signature moves on its Roman Reigns profile.
4. Bobby Lashley: a convincing display of power
Lashley’s physicality makes the spear look like a forceful display of strength. He may not be as universally identified with the move as Goldberg or Edge, but it suits a powerhouse presentation and gives him a credible sudden-impact option. WWE lists the spear among his signature moves on its Bobby Lashley profile.

Where Bron Breakker and Rhyno fit
Bron Breakker: Goldberg’s favored modern user
Goldberg has publicly praised Bron Breakker’s spear. In a July 2025 report, CinemaBlend quoted Goldberg saying Breakker should be the only WWE wrestler using the move. That is Goldberg’s personal opinion, not an official WWE ranking or an objective assessment; it is useful context for how one of the move’s most prominent users views Breakker’s version. CinemaBlend’s report includes his comments.
Rhyno: a distinctively named alternative
Rhyno’s charge is widely known as the Gore, giving it a separate name and identity rather than simply another entry in a list of wrestlers using the spear. A Wrestling Inc. report on Adam Copeland’s comments distinguishes Rhyno’s Gore while discussing spear finishers such as those used by Goldberg and Roman Reigns, as well as Charlotte Flair. That is reported wrestling commentary, not an official ranking. Read the report on Copeland’s comments.

So, who has the best spear?
If the priority is sheer visual force and the move’s place in a wrestler’s signature identity, Goldberg is the strongest pick in this ranking. Edge offers the most drama through timing, Reigns makes it a carefully built match weapon, and Lashley brings convincing power. Fans may rank them differently because “best” depends on what they value; there is no established comparative statistic or neutral authoritative ranking that settles the question.
