Katey Sagal plays Dr. Kureha, and Mark Harelik plays Dr. Hiriluk in Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE Season 2, Into the Grand Line. In Netflix’s character guide, Kureha is Tony Tony Chopper’s mentor and surrogate mother; Hiriluk is a compassionate scientist who tries to bring hope to a broken world.
Who plays the Drum Island doctors?
| Character | Actor | Netflix’s character description |
|---|---|---|
| Dr. Kureha | Katey Sagal | A seasoned doctor whose eccentric approach to patient care leads her to become Chopper’s mentor and surrogate mother. |
| Dr. Hiriluk | Mark Harelik | A compassionate scientist who sees the best in people and works to bring hope to a broken world. |
Netflix’s Season 2 cast guide places both characters in the Drum Island story. Sagal describes Kureha as “a badass who takes no prisoners,” and says the island’s inhabitants are “kind of scared of her.”
What their casting means for Season 2
The doctors’ roles connect the adaptation’s Drum Island story to Chopper, the Straw Hats’ doctor. Netflix describes Kureha as a mentor and surrogate mother to him, while Hiriluk’s characterization centers on compassion and hope. The casting announcement identifies the actors and characters; it does not report a separate figure for the number of viewers or other performance measure associated with this casting.
The season is titled ONE PIECE: Into the Grand Line. Netflix says all eight episodes are available to stream, and its Media Center says the series has been renewed for Season 3. Check Netflix’s series page for the current season status.

How the live-action series connects to the manga
The live-action series is based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga. Netflix’s Media Center describes the source franchise as more than 100 volumes and 500 million copies sold worldwide; the page does not give a reporting year for those figures. That makes the manga the direct source for readers who want to compare the adaptation with Oda’s story.
Netflix’s 2023 renewal announcement recalled that Oda had said the Straw Hats would need “a great doctor” and added, “We will see!” That was a retrospective comment from the announcement, not a statement about the later Kureha and Hiriluk casting. The announcement also reported that Season 1 had reached 37.8 million views in less than two weeks after release—a historical Season 1 figure, not a Season 2 or casting statistic.
