Season 3 outcomes at a glance
FOX announced 16 celebrity recruits for the season. The table distinguishes passing or failing the final test from withdrawing or being removed earlier in the course. FOX describes the format as having “no votes and no eliminations”; recruits may quit, leave over injury concerns, fail a test, or be dismissed by the Directing Staff.
| Recruit | Outcome | Reported detail |
|---|---|---|
| Brody Jenner | Passed selection | Passed after the final interrogation. |
| Kayla Nicole | Passed selection | Passed after the final interrogation. Later reporting identifies her as Kayla Nicole Brown. |
| Cam Newton | Failed final test | The Directing Staff took his armband after he failed the final interrogation. |
| Golden Tate | Failed final test | Failed during the final interrogation. |
| Alana Blanchard | Voluntary withdrawal | Withdrew during the final stage after distressing sounds from the final group prompted her to bow out. |
| Stephen Baldwin | Directing Staff removal | He said he feared worsening an injury before a work commitment; the Directing Staff dismissed him. |
| Ali Manno | Medical withdrawal | Withdrew after a hand injury and a doctor’s recommendation to get an X-ray. Some later reporting refers to her as Ali Fedotowsky. |
| Denise Richards | Voluntary withdrawal | Removed her armband after saying she had hurt her back and choosing not to continue with surf immersion. |
| Nathan Adrian | Medical withdrawal | Left after an injury during the hand-to-hand combat task. |
| Landon Donovan | Medical withdrawal | Left amid concern that he might have fractured ribs. |
| Carey Hart | Medical withdrawal | Forced to withdraw after a fall during a mud run. |
| Marion Jones | Medical withdrawal | Left after an injury during hand-to-hand combat. Later reporting uses the name Marion Jones-Thompson. |
| Kyla Pratt | Voluntary withdrawal | The outcome recap classifies her departure as voluntary. |
| Christy Carlson Romano | Directing Staff removal | The staff took her number after calling her a “liability” when she struggled to keep pace on an uphill walk. |
| Trista Sutter | Voluntary withdrawal | She later told Us Weekly that she withdrew after becoming concerned about symptoms she associated with hypothermic shock. |
| Jordyn Wieber | Voluntary withdrawal | Withdrew before attempting the submarine submersion task because she feared drowning. |
Who passed and who failed the final test?
The final five recruits were Golden Tate, Alana Blanchard, Brody Jenner, Cam Newton, and Kayla Nicole. Blanchard withdrew during the final stage; Newton and Tate failed the final interrogation, leaving Jenner and Nicole as the two who passed selection. Passing selection is the show’s reported outcome, not a standardized score or ranking.
Why the other recruits left
Earlier departures were not all the same kind of exit. Some recruits chose to withdraw, some left for medical reasons or injury concerns, and the Directing Staff removed others. Those distinctions matter: the season did not use a conventional voting-off process, and not every departure was a failed final test.

Voluntary withdrawals
Along with Blanchard’s late-stage withdrawal, Denise Richards, Kyla Pratt, Trista Sutter, and Jordyn Wieber chose to leave earlier. Their reported reasons differed: Richards cited her back and opted out of surf immersion; Sutter later described concern about symptoms she associated with hypothermic shock; and Wieber left before the submarine task because of her fear of drowning. The recap identifies Pratt’s exit as voluntary without giving a further reason.
Medical withdrawals and injury concerns
Nathan Adrian and Marion Jones left after injuries during hand-to-hand combat. Landon Donovan left amid concern about possible fractured ribs, while Carey Hart was forced to withdraw after a fall during a mud run. Ali Manno withdrew after a hand injury and a doctor recommended an X-ray.

Directing Staff removals
Stephen Baldwin was dismissed after saying he feared aggravating an injury before a work commitment. Christy Carlson Romano was removed when staff judged that her difficulty keeping pace on an uphill walk made her a “liability.” These were staff decisions, not audience votes.

The most accurate shorthand is that Jenner and Nicole passed selection, Newton and Tate failed the final test, and Blanchard withdrew in the final stage. The remaining departures happened earlier and should be described by their reported cause—voluntary withdrawal, medical withdrawal, or Directing Staff removal—rather than grouped together as eliminations. The reporting does not provide a standardized performance score for comparing the recruits.
